Testing my webspace for the 1st time.. 
Anybody want to share their bent Mini pics? Here's one I just survived in 1965- I was passenger in the LF seat. We got run off the road by an oncoming Porsche on our side of the road. Hit tree at 60? MPH... nasty.. 5 months in hospital, 10 off work.

Car died... `61 850- every panel bent except bootlid... I put the motor, 1058cc (Cooper 997 with 1100 crank) in my car for a while... 
We missed the Porsche. He stopped, took a look, then f**ked off. My old man & the cops tracked him down, he copped $100 fine for overtaking close to a corner. ning nong... Hey it was way back in `65... My left leg was in 100 pieces. Look where the bloody LF wheel finished up.. Yeah I was in a coma 3 days. Somebody up there loves me. Wasn't my time to go..

Not meaning to make light of the accident at all Doc, but did anyone else notice that even in death, there is still a puddle of oil under that Mini??? I was looking for bits to claim Dibs on, but there's not a thing in the photo that I think would be salvageable. Maybe a window or two |

The Mini is considered a lot stronger and more crash resistant than a lot of other more modern buzzboxes. Please don't take this as a licence to go crazy as you (the squishy soft centre in the Mini) can, and still will be seriously injured!! Check the condition of your seatbelts right now!!! If you knew how far they extend during an accident you would be horrified. If you have non-inertia reels - keep em tight (always) - don't compromise safety for comfort (although reaching for those switches, even with extensions, can sometimes be a PITA) Doc....would love to hear what other penalty your Dad and the cops might have served on the Sports VW driver

hey 9. I only have the fixed belts in my car, and yes, as you say the switches and key are a pain in the arse to reach. I like the feel of a tight seatbelt. Saves ya having to hang on to everything else in the car while cornering. The only thing I get ticked off about is having passengers that are too ignoratnt to put the belt back on the clip, and leave it hanging out of the door. I dont mean to hijack the thread, but I have always thought harnesses are the safest form of restraint. I dont want to fit a roll cage to the car, so it means I'll have to run them off the parcel shelf, and delete the back seat. Can anyone that's done that mod tell me the best way to make the support in the parcel shelf legal for a Mod Plate? Material thickness/Size |

Amazing photo Doc.... Another illustatration of how dedicated (crazy) Mini enthusiasts are. I'm amazed at the number of people who after having a big crash in a Mini are still willing to get back in!! Obviously didn't wane your enthusiasm! I race with a guy who had a bad road smash in one and was very badly hurt and yet he gets back into a Mini and races (and hard at that!).
One last question...How did you get the engine out?????

shite then you dont actually know what 'happened' to you woke up confused with your leg in a cast, then the doctor told you had a 'car accident' and it was bad and its quite convenient that you had a 'memory loss'. do you know what they do on UFO's? you coulda been picked up was it literally a pain in the arse to sit down? i remember '65 was just before Roswell... back in those days... |

Exactly why i've had harnesses in every mini.... This wont answer your question, but the SC850's are bolted through the front edge of the rear subframe..... hard to describe, but basically the eye bolt is at the bottom of the rear seat back rest, through the gap between the 2 cushions. I have bolts welded to the subframe itself. Officially, its bolted to the vehicle's chassis, and is therefore legal in SA... Now, how can i legally wear my helmet while driving on the streets??

you mean you cant wear helmets while driving?! ive been doing it around Cabramatta with a full face black helmet and nothing has happened so far... |

Yes, this thread has prompted me to think hard about putting in a new bucket seat or two, locking seat subframe and a 6 point harness as a minimum
My motto is now Safety First! next few items have to be a loud air horn (let em know you're there!), H4 headlight conversion kit for nigt driving, left rear vison mirror (slighty dangerous to overtake to left lane when there is a Landcruiser up your ass), Disc brakes, and how hard is it to install side impact bars in the doors? |
