i am no import knowledgable person, but i have heard it is much more difficult to import cars into this country. something about importing only pre 1989 minis (they are less reliable, and pretty much like the old ones found here) you may like to read up on this website www.ozcooper.com.au by the time you have paid everything off and gone through all the checks it could be a very exxy but average mini. if youd like to import a mini for its newness (rover fuel injected 90's) then there are a fair few you can buy in aus. |

Ok, if you want to import a car and have a chance of getting it rego'd it must be pre 1988, now the thing to look at is a pre 1988 original body, doesn't matter what year mechanicals it has as long as the car was originally rego'd in the UK before 88. Cheapest way of shipping is RoRo ( roll on roll off ) but the car has to be drivable and a couple of months ago it cost about $2000, if its not drivable you will need to container it and that costs about $5-600 more, can supply the names of the companies we use if you like in the UK. Unless the car is 30 years or older you will be charged duty and then GST, You must apply for a vehicle import approval from DOTAR (dept of Trade) $50 when you find the car you want (takes 17 days to recieve) and you will need the UK V5 rego papers to prove date of first rego and a sales receipt and your passport, the shippers will help you out with customs and quarenteen paperwork. The good part about container shipping is you can load up the inside and the boot of the car with parts or other stuff and it gets shipped free except for customs. I hope this helps, we bring in 3 or 4 cars a year (not mini's) to restore and if you want any info or help send me a message Jon |
