You say it is a 1964 cooper S. That means it's not an Aussie built car. I understand that the very early 1070 S in england came with the rubber uni's, for a few hundred cars. Most were retro fitted at the dealer once hardy spicers came into the fore.
You probably have a mini K box, not the original S box. The 12g1128 box (4 synchro remote change) came out in 1969 on Mini K's and the Cooper S. If it is the original box, the numbers on the raised flat place to the left of the 12g1128 casting number will have the engine number stamped ( a portion of it).
