I I received a "worked" 998cc engine and box from my uncle which was apparantly in perfect nic before his tyre iron fell across his battery terminals and lit his mini on fire. :(

... and I have previously told the tale of my sisters mini having a fuel tin roll over the battery & ignite  Things do move around in the boot.

PLEASE FIT A SECURE COVER OVER YOUR BATTERY :!:

A mini I owned but had sold later managed to weld the jack to the floor of the boot. No real carnage though.

Mini Mad welded the jack across the battery terminals at a chicane down the road here. Bit of fire but not bad. He got home, but battery was rooted...

Scene: Dreary black rainy night, heavy traffic, fast lane of three, out side Bankstown Aerodrome.

Suddenly everything goes black/no engine.

Somehow every one misses me as I glide over to the kerbside.

Thinking it is battery I immediately open boot, YIKES :!: :!:

Smoke rising off jack neatly welded across both terminals

Grab the warm jack and pull :? It laughs at me

Widen stance and wrench jack off terminals...lights come on 8)

Be careful people

After reading on here about the guy refitting his 2nd (right hand) tank, touching the terminals and the whole garage going up in flames, I made a plywood shelf covering the spare wheel and battery. Makes it tidier and easier to load as well as safe.

Before the existance of Mike :P

the blackness is still on the boot insides , i havent even scrubbed it, 10 months and more, :?
I didnt realise until 6 months or so later that it had put a fairly decent melt mark in the battery  doesnt look good :!: Yet it seems fine still.

right now i read Gafs comments

and the answers are ype chuckin water on, the batt melted 8) the rubber is still as it were :P and its still all black

SO
im asking for it again :P :!:
I think i cover it good enough though, so its alright

If you can't be bothered making something up or getting the proper `predigested cardboard' cover, at least chuck a piece of carpet in there. Works for me...

You could make a cover.
Or just get a van and you will never have to worry about that sort of thing ever cause it has its own built in battery cover

for a couple of bux you can buy condoms for your terminals...like 99% of new cars have fitted standard.
