Personally I wouldn't recomend going straight to 1380. Once the engine needs rebuilding, the block is a throw away job. There are just not enough 1275's out there. IMO, it's in your best interests to go the next step up. If it's a "virgin" 1275, go to 1293. You really aren't gunna gain much HP if you go bigger. The hp or 2 you get with the 1380 isn't worth throwing the block away next rebuild. 100hp at the fly is quite reachable which is about 70hp at the wheels. Remember, the car is 600kg. ![]() |

a 1380 is a 1275, but on it's last(?) rebuild, there is only a minor power gain from the extra cubes, most comes from how well the engine breathes. I'd rather have a 1275 on it's first or second rebuild (say 1310) and know that I had plenty of life left in the block than a very small amount of horsepower gained from a block that's one score away from being a bin job. Ask doc but, he will know a lot better than me! Just my 2 cents worth |

i'd say in your case put a mild 998, 1098cc or 1275 unit in and enjoy what a mini is best known for.. its handling and cornering. if you wanna go really fast and be a bogan, drive something else, the cooper S and clubman GT cars are fast for a classic car if you wanna race bogans at the lights, use a bogan v8 ![]() |
