It's had Oz MK2 flares put on, too...

It is a nice mini but it is not "Original" like he claims in the ad. If it was "original it would have the right... motor, gearbox, fan, booster, generator, master cylinders, oil cooler, flares, fuel tank, boot floor, etc. Not quite the investment that he claims it to be. 
At least my "S" has the right motor and box! |

I agree , many things are not original , prob not worth the $20,000 he claims it will sell for , but some people will buy anything if it looks nice i guess

As much as I hate bagging peoples cars (any car)...he seems to be trying to talk up the price when really he has rooned an original (IMHO)

Mick We both know where a 1071 powertrain is though and his car is the same as this one with a 1275 in it, the 1071 is in his shed. The car has an interesting history, it was originally given to Peter Brown (5th at Bathurst in 66) by BMC to run in a few rallies and hillclimbs and he gave it to his dad after having an off in it(on a club rally) and his dad did over 100,000 miles in it without any engine or gearbox work except for normal services. |

Ian is being badgered by me all the time mate...the well developed 1330 is in his Traveller and has been for quite some time. He is concerned at the condition of the 1071s original paint....it looks like hammertone and cobwebs all mixed in 
Yes, Ians 1071 is interesting but also not completely original either....there are other people who are into that scene but not Ian nor me (dosen't mean either of us wouldn't be proud to own an original ). For a start, he has done the removable moustache mod and it has adjustable suspension (cause as you know...hes a highly knowledgeable fiddler   )
I have helped him with some engine repairs/overhauls and I know he can do the 1071 up (maybe with a Seth Afrikann crank )....it will be interesting to see which way he jumps in 2006

Mick its a long way from its original paintjob, originally it was a grey/blue sort of colour with a white roof, a long way from ford hermitage red but still a very interesting car with a real history. Jon |

At least my "S" has the right motor and box! i dont think you could call any mini completely perfectly origional any more, theyve all at one stage or another had new part put on and different things done to them, that mini there looks mint, who cares if its not origional, its bloody nice!

This particular car sounds very desirable, but not very original. Original means just that! That said I would feel privileged to own a car with that pedigree! The point really, is describe a car as is, we are mini people, we will appreciate the honesty but this is possibly the best place to get an accurate idea of value and I rarely disagree with the approximations offered. (The vendors seem to feel differently when told that their car is worth half the asking price). It's not personal! |

and it actually has the 1071 engine installed these days?although maybe installed is not the absolutely correct word?? Yes, unfortunately there?s nothing that actually distinguishes a true 1071 S except the engine number. The chassis number belongs in the same series as the 997s ? its just that some had the 1071 engine fitted and were built as Ss. Although as Heritage actually has the records they can check the specs for any particular chassis number. I wonder if its a typo or perhaps the guy on Ebay doesn?t actually realize the number should be KA2?S?7?(and not 5) as he has in his ad....Ian |

Peter Brown lived in Canberra and went on to race Alfa's for many years at Bathurst, he was given a 1071 Cooper S by BMC to have fun with and gave it to his dad who drove it untill he was to old to drive, it had over 100,000 miles on it when they parked it up and was later restored and is still kicking about now, last time I saw him he was working At BERCO engine reconditioners in Canberra, but that was a fair while ago. |
