Post subject:  Weber Box + Speedo Mount

Okay so i've got my 45DCOE, and the deluxe.
Previous doodle has attempted to cut the firewall to clear a weber/dello before, so i might as well finish it and turn it into a proper box.
I can easily get one made, or just buy an 'off the shelf' item.

The thing that worries me now is where i mount the speedo.
I'd love to retain the original centre mount, but what do i mount it to?

Any advice appreciated.
Big willy.

1. Don't make that box too wide.
2. Use a Mini-K 3 clock binnacle, but screw it thru the trim on the dash. This way you can put MDF or similar packing behind the trim as required to get speedo & binnacle where you want it.
Lengthen the wiring so you can undo the binnacle and move it into the car- makes gauge maintenance nice & easy. Watch the oil pressure line... don't kink it.
3. Find a 90* angled speedo cable drive box. Gets cable out of the way.
I believe a Range Rover (or was it Land Rover?) one fits according to a previous post here by someone..
If Mini cable is too short now, use an early screw-on Clubby one or a Morris 1100 one.

i am just about to finish making one for gafmo..

not hard to do.. if you hunt around the net you will find differend sizes.. i got my size from avonbar's weber box. 1.5mm thick sheet cut to shape. on the the metel bender.. the seam weld with the mig..

Can use a batt box... and just cut it back to how deap you want it.. but then folding the tabs back out may be tricky unless you got a good small magna-bend..

Will have Jims done the next few days.. so will post pics when done.

Cody... good stuff. I'll have to look into the measurements.

Others:  I'll try sticking to mostly Mini related posts from now on.
And constructive ones, at that.
With lots of pics.
And progress reports.
Even if you DO get sick of them, i'll still do them... i'm sure someone is watching the project take shape 8)

Don't tell Will to put Clubman guages in, tell him to put Rover ones in, he likes Rovers better.

So those Weber air boxes are pretty much an 'over-the-counter' item from Avonbar Racing?
Sounds good to me if they are... saves rooting around 8)

And yep, Rover gauges are class (the Cooper ones only), but i don't want to put dash rails in it.
I'm going the 'resto-mod' route... a fair whack of original Morrie gear (seats, dash, tail lights, flares), but some nice touches of my own (Mk 1 S flares, my 12" Charcoal superlites, 45weber  , etc)

400mm is way too long, if you want to keep the centre binnacle..

BTW the 1968 UK works rally cars had split Webers, mounted onto a MK2 S twin HS4 manifold. The Weber carbs' flanges were not stock though. And I believe they had no `Weber box' in the cars, either.
There are pics on the web, somewhere..
