hi guys! long time no post! i finaly worked out after redoing the head that the rings are gone!! i have a chance to get a 850 in realy good order.The engine number is 8Y/U/H14962. The engine is from a 1964 mini with a '' magic wand" type 4-speed,3-synchro gearbox this is my prob! will it fit into my 77 leyland pano? and do i have to mod anything? can i use the twin su's of the 1100? can i use my stractors? any help would be of some asistance!!!!! thanks pete

Yeah it will fit in there, but... Gearbox will have no synchro on 1st gear, motor will have no torque compared to an 1100,and will be about 18HP down in power, You really don't know how good it is until you run it... Yes you can use the carbs and extractors, but the above still stands. I'd go find another 1098, plenty about- or rebuild the one U got. Or if you have the $$$$, go grab a 1275 and discs.....

as much as we love the little beast i am over working on the damn thing!! 
thanks for the info though.. most helpful unless someone has a cheap 1100 in good order! at a good price..... Cash is a bit tite at the moment
