Hillclimb is on this weekend

MOUNT TARRENGOWER HILLCLIMB OCTOBER 22-23, 2005. Mount Tarrengower, Maldon. Ph: Roger, (03) 5443 7008 or (03) 0409 434 905.

It's a great weekend. Sunday is usually the best. Some great old cars running and usually a Mini or two. Even the car park is usually a treat with cars such as Porsche 356 Speedsters, Delage's, Vintage Bentley's and Vauxhall 30/98's usually in attendance. Its a great picnic atmosphere.

Highly recommended.

Hey HRS take a few minutes to admire the workmanship on the Delages....drool

Meeni, how about editing your first post so TARRENGOWER is spelt correctly....that way...others will easily find the stuff about it

Greetings Miniists.
A bit more information on the Mt. Tarrengower hillclimb. I was actually competing in the "slowest" Mini there, an 850 Big Bore... or is that a 998 Short Stroke... anyways 908cc of Britain's finest.

Allthough I don't have the final results yet, the sharp end of the Mini competition was between Greg Hewson's Arden crossflow Sport Sedan and Norm Gowers Honda VTEC powered Mini. Although Greg was giving away some HP to Norm, the weight and handling advantage was in Greg's favour. They were both within .5s of each other during the official three runs on Sunday with Greg putting in the fastest time, but an un-official fourth run at the end of the day saw Norm a tad faster. Greg had previously been running a KAD Twink on the S/S, but has put back his Arden/2x45DCOE setup with a sleeved down (1293) block for next years new "historic" sports sedan series and feels it is working just as well in this instance... he was actually bedding in the rings on his first practice run ;-).

Mt. Tarrengower is pretty hairy (I believe ;-)) in a fast Mini and Greg was hitting vmax (100mph) over the finish line. As he said, "the track was getting very narrow at times".

The usual Group N suspects :-) including Peter Weymouth-Wilson, Ian Grinter, Nick Cascone and others were battling it out in their more conventional steeds... all immaculate.

I was bringing up the tail having to tread a fine line between revving the b'jeezus out 'Wee Bean' in 2nd and bringing it home in one piece for the drive home. The trick seemed to be to pick the right change up point to 3rd and then back to 2nd at the end of the run where the track steepens... so my vmax was something like 53 mph! I was almost in two minds of doing a fourth run when my third was mistimed... almost.

Times to follow when I get 'em.

yer your car looks really nice though, and for a 908 it went bloody well, the 8 port clubbie looks awsome, like a futuristic mini! what happened to that round nose race car that they had built? i saw it at hanging rock a couple of years ago and havnt seen it since

Thanks Meeni.
Unfortunately hillclimbs aren't Wee Bean's forte, but fun none the less. On a flastish cct it can give an 1100 or mildy driven 'S' a run for their money ;-)

The car you might have seen might have been Simon Young's (Mr. British Sporting Cars) works replica of GRX311D. Orginally it ran the Arden with Webers like Greg's S/S, so had the bulge on the front of the bonnet, but he has been running pukka Lucas mechanical FI for many years which fits nicely under the bonnet.
