Post subject:  NEW 850/Deluxe Centre Dashes ? Interest ?
Ok, I'm toying with the idea of doing a run of NEW Single-Gauge Centre-speedo housings (you know, the off-white plastic things that break when you look side-ways at them...)

I'm talking to (another) guy about getting a mould made, and making some in Fibreglass, painting to suit... - or even if there is demand, getting some Carbon Fibre ones done :twisted:

Wont be for a month or two yet (I'm a certified Procrastinator. . . took a month to get the award too!) - but will be cheap...

Anyone Interested ? - (Wombat, I've already got you donw for one of the first ones!)

These are the round single clock ones, not the black 3 clock oval ones used on K's & Coopers.. :wink:

Should we aim for "perfection" in the paint colour ? - or let you paint your own ?

I've only ever seen old ones that look kind-of off-white.. I'm guessing they used to be white ?

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, looks like we are going into production !

Whats your choice....

Unfinished Fibreglass
Sanded / prepared Fibregalss
Finished / Painted Fibreglass
Raw Carbon Fibre (adds a few $$ I can imagine!)
sanded / prepared Carbon Fibre
Finished Carbon Fibre

I think the best bang for buck would be the sanded / prepared F/G .....

Also, the CF wont be Vacuum formed / cured - i just dont have access to that kind of stuff, but it will be carbon Matting laid with resin.

If it works nice, would anyone be intersted in "S" guage clusters too ?

If you are considering S ones I'd make them Mk1 type- (fit over 850 binnacle) as the Mk2 ones are still plentiful. :wink:

It's easier than you think, although maybe a bit noisy for the neighbours :wink: I got these tips from my mate who used to make America's Cup yachts in Spain and Italy (no they never won, but hey they did not sink like the Aussie one :roll: ) He also made a yacht that was a gift from the factory to the King of Spain

1. Vacuum bag = $2 shower curtain from Spotlight (or similar)
2. Absorbtion cloth = $1/m cotton wadding from Spotlight
3. release ply = commercial grade baking paper with little perforated holes in it from catering supplier
4. vacuum pump = eductor and hose attached to your air compressor (this is the noisy bit !)
5. Oven = cardboard box with a fan heater blowing into it.

can't remember what they used to seal the bags, but i can find out. This really works, i saw a video of him making the King's boat and this is what they were doing :!: They were making 3m long rudders and 4 m long keels using this method, so a little speedo pod should be a breeze
