Just wondering are they pricey buggers to restore and own compared to other cars or is it just me Parts dont seem cheap generally and even though there small to get them right costs or is it just me |

how expensive am i ? well i am willing to spend prob 10ish on doing one for a daily driver and it seems a struggle to even do that and thats with nothing special 
dont get me wrong i love them but just seems strange that they cost so much when you can buy say a done up xy ford with a recod 351 engine for the same price with ac |

I think minis are expensive. But when you buy a part here and there and do it as you go it is less noticeable. Also shop around and buy second hand. I am restoring a van and everyone says "Oh you should replace that while you have it apart - alot easier to do it now than when it's in the car" It would be great if you could afford to replace everything but I have only been doing the necessary bits and will worry about the others if they break later. With that said though, nearly everything on my sub frames are new or recoed with new parts. |

But you're comparing apples with oranges there. You will spend far less money if you buy a completed mini that someone has already poured the time & money into (like kazjims turbo brick) |

Thanks AWD, You'll get your Spotters fee in the mail.... 
But he's right, the Moke I'm buying has been 99% finished to a VERY high standard... saving the the time / hassle of doing that bit, and allowing me to concentrate on My bits.. the Engineering side of it.... Worth Thinking about... J |

yah true but even the but try find a mini with a decent body and paint with any sort of performance for less then 10000 big ones |

i disagree... u can get a good mini that someone has spent months and years on for less then 10000 gee's.... my example Resprayd in 03 1330 rebuilt engine wit twin su's, wade cam, new wiring, exhaust and extractors, big alt and a smooth gearbox. Nice interior with a decent sound system 12in mini lites twin tanks fog lights etc etc etc and i pikd it up for $8000 there has been a few problems... but wit any old car, especially british, you gonna ahve problems.. if u think u not dont buy |

Minis are not that expensive compared to most classic cars and the availabilty of parts is great compared to most. Sure you can get an XY falcon and shove a 351in it, but to rebuild a 351 properly will cost a lot more than a mini and then you have to get the box and 9 inch as well and don't stop there because then you want all the other bits for it as well as the respray which will cost between 3-5000 for a decent one. All old cars can be a pain in the neck but most have character that no new toyhyunmazniss new buzz box will ever have, if your looking for a car that doesnt require you to get your hands dirty then don't buy a classic car, thats part of the appeal |

ok Marc,,,lets have a little thinky here You go out & buy a 2nd hand , run down XY Falcon,,,strip it down & start doing it up then Are you going to try to tell me that it would be cheaper to do that than a mini??? no, you`re not , cause it`s way more expensive to do that car (TO THE SAME STDS) as you would do a mini. so,,,to answer your question,,,No, they`re not very expensive at all "Compared" |

I know of one of ausmini's finest examples you could pick up in Brisbane for that money. It's got all you mentioned and some..... I don't agree with them being expensive. Next time you buy something for it price that part for a current recently made vehicle. And.......if you spend 10k building a mini you will not loose a hell of alot of money. |

The other advantage of minis is the huge range of performance and custom accessories, from arches to eight valve heads, repro chrome trim to 5 speed conversions. It's as cheap or as expensive as you want to make it. Spare a thought for people doing up a Mk II Cortina in the UK. Pretty common model you'd have thought, but simple things like dash vents are like gold dust. At least with a mini, if you do need a part, you can get it. |

yeah i guess i still think the price of an old ford/holden works out maybe cheaper as with crate motors and the such for them which allready give decent performance i mean how much for an A series with decent performance/reliability rebuilt PLUS parts are readily available i dont agree that mini parts are as easy to get yeah i think there much the same maybe i should say cars are bloody expensive

hard to get? are you kidding me? there are spares of everything readily available. if you are spending to much, its probably where you are buying from. at the last club meeting, a member got up and told how he had been severely ripped off by a well known dealer (not in qld actually) but its the same as anything, shop round and you will find the best price. |
