I can get my hands on a few different heaters at the moment, which one is best for an 850?
Does anyone have any pictures of them in their vehicles?

Not sure if a heater was an option on an 850 in Oz - but they probably were the usual metal MK1 heater?

From the Mini accessories catalogue (1965/66).....

So there were different heaters for the 850 and Deluxe but what the difference is I don't know! I don't think it is the Cooper S heater but it might be. :wink:

I dont know how well the early model heaters work, but the clubman ones work pretty well.....and should be easy to come by......

Well the early model heater that I had in my round rose was awesome.. In fact I had to shut it off often because it was too dam hot :)..

Coopers back then got a heater with a fan but all the others no such luck.
Standard on MiniMatic & optional on Deluxe & 850 was the Oz made `fresh air' heater which is what Morris 1100 mentioned. Here's a pic of mine- I also have a fan (bilge blower) in the air duct. that's the white thing with its feet sticking up... :lol:
These heaters also improve engine cooling as they are permanently connected in the cooling circuit (no tap). Hot air/warm/cold/none is achieved by air mixing.

Sorry I dont have any photos..

But all I can remember is that it wasnt that hard to fit.. Cannot remember though if I had to add brackets or not?

As I fitted one to my old Morris Mini I had many years ago.. My Mini did not come with a heater originally but I picked up a second hand one from a Mini Wrecker I use to know and fitted it myself with no dramas :)..

I got a box of spare parts when i bought my mini recently... Included in the box was a heater that the previous owner was going to fit.

The heater is a cylindrical shape with a couple of metal pipes sticking out of it. It has a little flap on the side that opens as well as mesh.

From my description what heater would i be talking about? It looks almost brand new.

i luv that dash.
So the heater has controls for demister and floor, as well as a fan, and temp... is that the case?
So If i am looking for that style of heater, what do I need with it? I presume a tap, some conveluted tubing heater itself and an electrical swith for the fan. Do I need any inserts for the demister vents at the top of my dash? From memory my dash (850) does not have anything except the cutouts.

The cylindrical heater reffered to earlier is a Morris Minor unit made by Smiths - it might have been fitted to the 850's but I doubt they'd fit all that well.

The heater with the vertical controls and lettering: "Screen-Car-OFF" is an MK1 Cooper S heater. There is no "gear" to fit in the engine bay so whatever motor you've got is irrelevant. The electric switch is integrated into the body of the heater (its under the panel).
You'll need a sleeve for the fresh air running from the grill through the engine bay and into the firewall (unless you wanna run it as a recirculatory heater) this sleeve is remarkably like the standard sleeves for clothe dryers. And two smalller sleeves and two cooper S or clubman vents (or just use the original metal flap on the driver's side only).

this is an early smiths heater which was an aftermarket job, used on a lot of 1960's cars.
