Post subject:  wet weather mini
last night it hammered down on the gold coast and yep i got stuck in it on the way home from work. but the rain had no effect on my clubby not like my previous mini. only thing my carpet drivers side is soaked oh well it will dry

how do your minis go in the rain

Wet weather mini???? theres no such thing!!!

If you dont get a floorpan full of water then no doubt it will get into the dizzy...happened to me once and i had no idea what was going on. but strangely, after i took the dizzy cap off IN THE RAIN, had a look and replaced it, it worked fine???

yeah my mini fares no well in the wet, all my window seals are leaky apparently. my rear carpets are pretty much wet all the time.

also, if you are losing heaps of water, make sure the springy bit on your rad cap is the correct depth, (correct depth/length gives correct pressure usually) dont know what it is but if its not enough it takes heaps less pressure for the water to get out of the little escape hose, then you lose water then you wonder why when your cooling system has no leaks. (after you fix it that is

Minis are the best car in the wet. They can find grip when other cars are sliding off the road.
Unless
1) They are lowered.
2) They have wide tyres
3) They don't have a splash guard in front of the dizzy.
4) The window rubbers are stuffed.
5) The heater/demister don't work.

I used to love leaving other cars in my spray in my 1275LS. :lol:

Our Mini doesnt go in the rain period :)..

In fact even if it looks like it is going to rain Granny does'nt come out of the garage..

The worst aspect of driving in the rain is the dismal windscreen wipers. I'm thinking of upgrading to the heavy duty ones which are an inch longer as well as having heavier springs. Has anyone else tried them? They're an expensive item to 'suck it and see'

Well I'm glad to say my mini doesn't leak any water. The old dizzy used to be fine in the rain aswell. But I've got the pulsar dizzy now so no problems there. The only problem I've got is my wipers don't work.

Since I fitted a Pulsar dizzy, with Bosch leads, and put the coil onto the RH inner guard, the rain doesn't stop it...
In fact I can hose it while running. :D

The worst fear in the wet......some clown loosing traction and crashing into you, so I usually become more selective of what route I take. Yoko's seem to hold up good in the wet but as yet to test their limits. Rovers seem made for it. Presume this is normal for them, without going into any country of origin wet weather jokes. And yes it's actually dry inside, except in very heavy rain at the drivers door seal.

There is this one distraction of water beading on the glass at speed. It falls down the side front windows then blows back up in this circular motion. It's not a good idea to be distracted by this and stay focused on driving. I don't remember seeing this on minis with quater windows.
With a choice I'd rather take the Bini out in the wet, which gains greater superiority verse other modern cars in the wet, and at worse could be replaced. It also has rain sensors that run the wipers accordingly in intermittant drizzle (should turning wipers on and off bore you). Then there's all those other mod-cons to make it "safe". But that dont stop me taking the mini out in the wet to regain a less "enhanced" feel of the road either.

i have never had a problem with mine in the wet. except for some sideway action brought on by the hand brake. but i girnied the engine bay and blasted sum elextrical fault so i blew a fuse though.

All my previous minis have had no problems in the wet... Even the $600 red banger.

Except my newest arrival, which gets wet dizzy syndrome. :cry: I think i need to make a shield/Waterproof etc.

My only problem was that my wipers stopped working :)

but local knowledge took over ;)


i drove it a bit it the dry today and i must say, i think ...(restrain yourself makka)

i prefer to take her in the wet, than the dry..... :oops:

was driving to work one morning - raining cats 'n dogs - following a 4 wheel drive that went through this huge puddle - too late for me to change lanes or anything so I had to go through the same puddle. I thought this is it - wet dizzy and so on but no.......went straight through with no worries and I dont even have one of those plastic covers on the dizzy. Ribena has never let me down in the rain (sez me with fingers crossed) lol

Sorry for the long post, but it's a favourite Mini yarn of mine...

Was driving home from work in Darwin during the wet season in 1997with three mates. We used to leave the bungs in the floor out so the water would drain out. I was sharing the road with half a dozen Army ASLAV (8 wheel drive armoured personnel carriers, bout 8 tons apiece I think) which really get along at highway speeds quite nicely when they need to (they are the new cavalry as such).

They all got together on their radios, and thought it would be a lark to gang up and box the mini in. So they surrouded us with their giant machines and their big spinning chunky wheels and for a while all was sweet (but awkward). Then we all hit this huge sheet of water sitting on the road over a couple of hundred meters or so that had been left over from an afternoon tropical storm, and the comined action of 48 chunky exposed tyres put up a giant wave of water that covered everything in a huge plume of water. I didn't know where I was going, water came in through every crack, a exhaust roared past my window only centimeters off, engines roared past and backed away, the passengers screamed. Water was coming in through one of the floor bungs in a stream, went straight past the front seat passenger and myself and nailed the rear seat passenger in the eye like a blast from a hose, and when everthing cleared up I was in front of all the ASLAVs not knowing how the hell we ended up where we were and covered in water. All very relieved we patted ourselves over, and watched the inch or so of water in the footwells drain away again. The Army poking out the top of the ASLAVS were killing themselves laughing and as part of the services ourselves, all we could do was grin.
