well there seems to be speed bumps everwhere now, i blame it on them p platers hooning round :P and the mini doesnt like them all. so i was going round the back of the station and had to go over the speedbump i went really slow and everything and i scraped badly. then on the way home the car seemed a bit louder, so me get under the car and have a look when i got home and my exhaust was just hangin on. so i think i need some front hi-los as the front is really low compared with the back

and to top it of beacause the exhaust had been pushed back it damaged the beaver panel :cry:

so its all back together now with the mounts fixed and the exhaust is tightened much tighter now so it doesnt happen again, also will order some hi-los for the front as soon as posible

THey're a pain in the arse.. I'm noticing more of them around aswell these days. Just have to go really slowly and on an angle sometimes..

Ah yes, we've all had our own different troubles with exhausts :lol:

TIP: Take it to an exhaust place and get them to fit a flexi in.
Best 80 bux i ever spent.

If you take them diagonally they miss more bits on your car.. :D if you take them straight on- they take out the bottom of the LCB first. :x
and do go slowly... :wink:
Another trick- often the bumps in carparks are short, so try and miss them with 2 wheels. This helps too.

Those metal speedbumps like they have at Bunnings' parking lots etc are a real mini killer - as doc said I try to drive around them or take them at the absolutely lowest speed.
Also councils love to erect speed bumps in tree lined streets with bad elimination, then they let trees and stuff to grow over the warning signs and youre faced with a huge speed bump which should be taken at 15kph in the middle of a 60kph street. Pretty dangerous actualy.

Your exhaust is completely solidly mounted - what about rubber mounting it, so rather than fracturing mounts it has some give in it? With a rubber mounted engine, I'm not surprised that you've had problems. But I sympathise with you - it's a pain in the arse.

front of the rear subframe is standard mini rubber, but i don't know about the rear middle mount.

That exhaust looks pretty big..2"? or more..

I've rarely had any clearance issues with my exhaust, i have had it drop from the rear when a mount broke, and fractured where it meets the LCB's due to stress..

No clearance issues at all now..i could drive straight over a gutter and not bottom out on anything haha :lol:

its a 1 3/4 twin box rc-40 and it is held on by the rc-40 fitting kit which is all rubber mounted

does the RC40 hang down much?

because ATM i haven't bottomed out (even over a speed bump a the top of a hill)


what sort of trouble do you get with the rc40, and then how much worse is it if you lower the car a bit (say an inch)?

because i have the twin box rc40 so it has a resonator in the middle it hangs a little lower than my last exhaust but how low the extractors go really determines where the exhaust sits as the extractors seem to be the part that scrapes

Ben - your luck is going to change one day...

I destroyed a speed bump at HMAS Watson on South Head in sydney. Very embarrassing as the mini was perched on the 1st box of the RC-40 rocking front to back. The first Leuitenant wasn't happy as I furrowed his 2 hour old speed hump(very nicely done actually!!!)
