My mini is dead (well, dead enough). I have checked the whole 2 things i know to check (water and oil) and both are OK. It's making like a put-put noise and all vibrating and smells like oil (well, what i think oil smells like). it does go.. though very slowly, and has only about 1/4 the power. drove to my parent's house from work at about 40km/h..
so i am sad :( don't know how i'll get to work tomorrow either..

that's the whole problem. i can't tell you more, due to being a girl and not yet being educated in these things. which, at times like these, sucks.
so if i'm being told to check things, i'll have to be told what i'm looking for on them...

Check your spark plugs, if they're fouled up the car will run like dog crap and it'll vibrate under acceleration. Rings could be gone letting oil into the cylinders (hence the oil burning smell) and therefore fouling up the sparks..

Thats cool.
My advice: Get it to a mechanic!
Or get ya ex-boyfriend around to come check it out, maybe he's good with cars

Have you mixed up the spark plug leads by any chance when you checked the plugs????

1-3-4-2 is the firing order and the lead to #1 is around the 4 o'clock position on the distributor. The next lead - somewhere about the 1 o'clock position - goes to spark plug #3 and so on.

Try that and see how you go - good luck

before today i hadn't checked the plugs? and i only took one off at a time today.. too dark (and too many mozzies) to check it's all good now.. will have to look tomorrow after work.
i looked at 2 of them though and they are black and sooty. which, i am guessing, is not a good thing.

Black and sooty isn't as bad as black and shiny... sooty is just mixture too rich.. So it could be your problem.. hopefully after a clean of the plugs and lean the mixture a bit should fix things up :D

well i cleaned 3 of the spark plugs (couldn't get the third one out) and replaced my fuel filter, coz dad said the other day that it needed doing.
runs slightly better now.. no vibrating, just still only goes about 40km/h.
so i dunno *shrugs*
