It would be caused by an under prepaired surface, I would say? Not rough enough for the paint to stick to, maybe?

I noticed one of the other posts that describes getting "orange Peel" after painting a panel. This is where i put on my novice hat and ask "What causes orange peel ?" |

Can also be caused by incorrect thinners or painting over an incompatible coating |

it's all in the application! If the paint dries before it hits the intended surface, or your gun is too far away from the surafce, you will get orange peel. If you put it on just right, the surface will be smooth(ish) and have a decent shine If you put it on too wet, or your gun is too close, you will get run city!

It has many causes but mainly gun set up and spraying technique, to much paint(to thick)to much air to far from job or the reverse, its practice, get another panel and keep going, make sure your paint is the right consitency when mixed, if its to thick can cause orange peel,dont try and put to much on in the first coats, just right is just before it runs and that is something only practice can give you,i am still practicing after 20 years

That's the advice I needed (I was the original poster). I think I was putting on enough paint, as the first coat I got a slight run. So it must be a combination of pressure vs distance, as it was mixed on the thin end of the recommended mixture. My orange peel isn't too bad, so I must be getting close... |
