I went past a servo today that was called:

"West Ryde Ethanol Fuel"

I remember hearing a while back that the ethanol content of petrol cannot exceed 10%, but some service stations were selling a blend of up to 20% ethanol.

Now little Johnny How-hard wants to make ethanol blend fuel standard, to bring the cost down.

Does anyone know the facts on all this?!?

I believe JAM asked if it will happen, not if our cars will run on it.

Isn't the law they're allowed to put up to 10% in without saying anything.. but if they put over 10% ethanol in fuel they must notify people.

afaik ethanol will eat certain types of rubber and also some plastics. Some float bowls are made of plastic and stuff up after being exposed to ethanol. Also some older type of o-rings are eaten by this stuff. Apparently it also sucks out the oils in rubbers making them hard....

In some South American countries they use up to 25%. There is a thread on this elsewhere.

i think i read somewhere that its actually unsuitable in older cars, and only the newer cars can handle it? .... i udnno theres a post on it in the mods section i think, do a search and it will tell you the right stuff

All i can see is, "Does anyone knoe the facts on all this?!?".....so i dont think that your rudeness is totally nesecary, i was offering a hopefully helpful post, i beleive its much more helpful than yours...so learn some manners. personally i think it'd be a good move...if it happens then we'll save some money at the pump and hopefully it wont affect our performance too much...it might even make it better apparently adding lighter fluid to your petrol tank increases the octane rating by quite a bit...maybe ethanol will be similar...affect wise i dont think he was being rude...but this is a mini CHAT area...not a Q&A only section...so...why not discuss it rather than just "wham bam thankyou mam"-ing it? its not as much fun if we just answer and then kill the thread...

I had a feeling it was bad, and that was why there were limits as to the content in petrol....now Little John want's it legal....so I was confused.
