Woowoo after leaving moo's place at 5'ish we finally rolled into my driveway at around midnight.
She purred home the entire way, was an absolute pleasure to drive home...
now here's what you want to hear:
Hilarious stuff that went wrong!
1. About 10 mins after we hit the freeway I noticed a burning smell and recognised it as the same smell when you drop some oil on the rocker cover and it burns off... burning oil!!! I had no idea where it was coming from, but my oil pressure was fine so I just opened up all the windows and vented out the fumes.
When I pulled into the first servo there was droplets all over the tarmac
. I checked the level, bought some oil and topped it up again. Once again it burnt it off and then eventually settled nicely. Do rover engines have a drain valve for excess oil that then just gets burnt?
2. We figured out that 60 miles was about 90. After we left the first servo for an oil check, I noticed I was keeping pretty constant speed and was pretty proud of myself. We pulled into a servo just before Stawell, and the speedo stayed at 60. IT was stuck! I tapped it gently a few times but it stayed fast. Was at 60 the rest of the trip home.
3. When we left the servo above just before stawell, I turned the ignition to pull out of the bowser lane and the car shot up in revs even though my foot was off the pedal. Immediately I thought something was stuck so I popped the bonnet and checked the linkage. It looked ok so I went back around and had a look at the pedal... it wasn't returning for somereason. I think the return spring popped off at some stage when I pulled into the servo
. Yes, for the rest of the trip I had to neutralise the accel with my hand and push the cable back in to change gear and stop . It was like having cruise control, wasn't much fun once we got off the freeways though heh.
Apart from that, I'm stoked!
