I finally paid the last payment for my engine rebuild.
Not two hours later -- BANG!!!

Lost drive, then had a tiny bit of drive but was slipping badly. No bad noises from engine, gearbox selected all gears no worries.

Darren Burnes (top bloke from Mini Car Club - Mobile Mechanic and owner of "Best In Show @ Gannons Park show a few weeks ago) very kindly came and rescued me with his car trailer.

Thankfully it looks like I may have just stuffed a CV or something. Whatever it is I bloody well hope it's external of the gearbox!!

I'll have a look at it tomorrow arvo or Saturday.
Hopefully it's minor and doesn't cost $$$$'s or I won't be going to Wakefield - possibly won't have a wife either

Dam thats terrible Bob and I hope theres nothing major wrong with your Mini...

Possibly sounds like a CV joint or could be the drive flange..

I remember when I had my Cooper S many years ago and when I went around the corner that was it! I lost all traction...

At first thought there was something wrong with the gearbox.. But could get all gears easily then I thought it was the CV but they seemed ok too..

It was not until I had someone sit in the car and then attempt to drive it in gear that I noticed that the CV was spinning through the centre hub of the wheel. Then and only then did I realize that the drive flange was gone..

Anyway hope its nothing major or expensive to fix...

Good luck with it Bob. Sorry i couln't help but you know where the trailer is if you need to take it somewhere. just let me know if you do. From what you were saying last night, my guess is pot joint has lost it or a diff pin. Ones easy, the other is easy too but requires the motor out. I am sure you could do it in the car but it is easier with it out.

Cheers

Aaron

I'm hoping pot joint - looking at it very briefly last night the passenger side looked like it was sitting a little too far out so I'm hoping it's that simple.

It would need to be a l-o-n-g way out to lose drive..
Check a driveshaft hasn't sheared in the CV.. seen that!
