Post subject:  Words of warning... and help required

I couldn’t get the bugger to start this morning, so on investigation, there was power, the battery was ok, but there was no power getting to the coil. Bypassing the wiring to get power to the coil, there was no power getting to the distributor. More investigation led me to look under the dash, which led to moving a wire of some sort, which led to a very loud pop, a small cloud of smoke and then more smoke than you could poke a stick at, 4 boys including me running around yelling for fear of it being a fire and the garage burning down and then a frantic cutting of both wires to the battery in the boot to kill the power through the car.

Result … a whole lot of smoke, a burnt out wiring system and a Mini that is *&^%$#$%...!

So first, my words of warning - If you hear a spark of any sort touching any part of your Mini... UNHOOK THE BATTERY ASAP and check out your wiring.

Second, the help required - the wiring in my Mini is (was) converted over from negative to positive, so is it possible to use the wiring diagrams to rewire the Mini or is this really a case of get the professionals in..? If its a case of get in the professionals, does anyone in Sydney know of a good auto electrician..? Failing that is there anyone that wants to do this for me..? ha ha.

The Wiring diagram for the Negative earth Systems is not much different - but most user manuals have a collection of both anyway, i could scan one for you if you'd like.
If your wiring is totally razzed then it is easy enough to swap the whole loom over yourself - have a look at places like this :
http://www.vinwire.com.au/ - i have heard they are good before.
