Post subject:  clutch thrust baring replacement easy?hard & other quest

question no 1

just woundering how hard or easy it is to replace the clutch thrust baring??
its due to be done next week by link but i cant seem to find were it is in my mini manual??
its deffernetly on its way out as its starting to make a grinding sound as i push the clutch in.any idear on what needs to come off like clutch cover??etc
this ones only lasted 17 months??is this bad or good??

question no 2 has anyone heared of you been able to run a breather of were the manual petrole pump used to be located??
ive heardd you can get an adaptor witch bolts on to hear so you can run a 4th breather??
im allready running rocker cover breather, timming cover breather and clutch breather but im still getting oil out of my rocker cover cap breather and oil is being pushed into my dizzy as well..
was thinking this 4th breather might help to get the gas's out more.
any help would be good.

prolly have to at least disconect exhaust and that ends mound disconnected andlift that end of the motor a bit .. disconecting slave cyl from lever will be necessary too.. then undo bolts around clutch cover for access..
i guessing you could fit a breather there without any drama, but should you need to??

it's wierd that you'd need more than 2 breathers even - my hot 1293 and the 1310 in my S only ever had/have one breather - sure they're not blocked or getting pressure going in to them? (not sure what you've got them hooked up to)

thrust bearing isn't hard, like danidad says, lift the clutch end of the motor, undo the bolts, take the cover off, take the thrust assembly out, bash the pin out of the old bearing, but the new one on, and do the reverse...

ive checked all breathers...there not block as far as i can tell...seems to only come out rocker cover cap when i rev her hard...but still getting oil in dizzy for some time now...
think ill let link do clutch...easy for them...only 130 to do it too...if i do it it would take me ages to do...ill check breathers again tues and see if there blocked...i no one on timming cover side is ok as its just been replaced as it broke off while driving and went into my alloy radiator...not good...bugger.all fixed now.
will check on on clutch side ...
thanks for the advice.

have you got three breathers going already  and still getting oil out of the Rocker cover :!:
What PSI are you getting at the oil presssure dial?
any smoke out the exhaust?

no smoke...only a bit when i first start her up nothing else..ever..ive got two breather factory type..one on timming cover and this has a kn little filter on it...and its clean...the other is on clutch cover side the same as the other one..and is clean as well....and ive got one witch is just a tiny hole witch is on the rocker cover cap..its a breathable type...maybe i should drill a hole into rocker cover and put another filter onto this??
psi is betwen 65 and 70 on full rev and betwwen 25 to 20 once fully running at idel...also ive checked oil level and its right on the full line...im allways carefull not to over fill it.as for the smoke when i start it its just becasue i tend to pump the pedel when i start it and i sometimes flood it a little sometimes...well this is what ive been told anyway...

Yer, i have 4 breathers on my LS, The one on the fuel pump was hand made. Bought it off my mate, he wasnt using it any more and i thought 'more the merrier'

Make sure Link use the Timken type thrust bearing. The cheapy $10 ones you get with a clutch kit are just crap. The Timken ones are about $70.... Pricey, but especially worth it if you have a heavy clutch diaphram.

thrust race bearing is a peice of piss
undo the engine mount and the stabiliser bar remove the pins on the clutch arm jack up making sure you dont put the fan through the radiator
undo the bolts on the cover ... then realise you need to remove the starter motor as well so you get up and disconnect the battery .... come back remove the starter then the clutch cover take it to the bench get the lil clip of that holds the bearing inplace put the new bearing on and put back together then realise you forgot the lil clip .... then say fark it and dont bother pulling it apart and just leave it as is
makka

p.s.... ill try to remember to put the littlel clip back on when i do it
