I have a 1969 MkII Cooper 'S'
No compliance plate
Body number YG2S4 1381
Engine Number 9FXEY 54278
Date on wiper motor 10/69

It has currently got a MKI style brake booster and tin can master cylinders, are these correct for this car??

Were can i find the correct interior light??

Where can i find the lining/insulation that goes under the spare wheel?

Any info would be much appreciated... :lol:

There wasn't a clear distinction between Mk1 and Mk 2 Cooper S's at the start of the Mk 2 production. They shared little items between the models for a while while BMC emptied their shelves of the old stuff to make way for the new.
These cars are now called the Mark one and a halves.

Yours may fall into that category, but I am unsure of the dates which these cars fell into. 10/69 sounds pretty late for it to be a Mk 1.5, but it maybe it is. That would explain the booster if this is true.

The correct Mk2 interior light is a difficult one, it is easy to find the lens brand new, the base is difficult. Watch EBAY. A brand new old stock one went up for sale 3 weeks back, and I got mine for 5 bucks from a guy in Adelaide on there as well. Just be patient. A clubman interior light can be bought brand new and would suffice till then.

What was the original lining material like? I can't answer this one...

being '69, it should have tin tank master cylinders, and like Mick says it probably has the MK1 booster as they were using up old stock. Agreed on the interior light - deluxes etc. of the same vintage were the same - is it meant to be the one with the ribbed fins on the side?

I'm guessing you know they didn't have compliance plates for the early MK 2's

I've never seen material under the spare wheel...... my '70 model doesn't have it, and it has the original spare in there.... (no chairs as well)

EDIT: do you have a metal heater or a plastic one?

Its a Mk 2
mine is numbered 200 odd car before this one.
Doesnt have complience plate and didnt come with a insulation under spare.
mine has older brake booster and people have noticed this but my old man said thats the one that came with it when he bought it(new) he thinks.
Mine is a Mk 2 for sure so is this then IMO.
and i have tin cylinders.
and lense for light inside is missing :(

Good news Unit.

The lens can be bought new from just about anywhere. Not expensive. Be GENTLE with the old base, the heat from the bulb makes them as brittle as pork crackling.

They bought them in some years ago repro'd in China but weren't what they expected having come in kit form instead of assembled. I reckon I could deal with that though looking at how difficult they are to get when you need one.

The original MK1 type Booster (Lockheed type) wasn't replaced with the PBR VH44JA type until late in MK2 production. Probably corresponds to the time of introduction of the 2nd type Lockheed booster in MK3 UK Cooper'S' cars. Some time in late 70/71?

Plastic tank master cylinders were introduced some time before 2/70.
A 2/70 build date MK2 S I had had Lockheed plastic tank master cylinders and the original type Lockheed booster.

As for MK1.5 and MK2 cars, a MK1.5 is a MK1 with the later OZ only wiper panel and motor but with MK1 engine and running gear, 2nd type interior and no guard flares (unless it was first registered in SAust). Built from early to mid 68 to end of MK1 production at end 68. Don't confuse build date with registration date or the date the car left the factory. Some MK1.5 cars left the factory in 69 but were almost certainly built in 68.

The boot floor sound proofing is similar to the piece stuck to the underside of the rear parcel shelf. Similar to the undercarpet sound proofing but seems to have some sort of coating on the woven top surface. Where to buy? NBI!
