Who has one, whats it rated for (weight), what do they cost and are there any that should be avoided..?

I was going to get one at SuperCrap the other day because it was 20% off everything, but when I was looking at one, someone gave me one of those "I wouldnt get that if I was you" speeches.

I know I am a wuss for listening to them, but I was parting with a few hundred bucks, so thought I woudl ask you people first.

P.s. if anyone in Sydney has one that I could possibly borrow.... I need to get an engine out of my new toy

Phucken heavy it is.
They come in two boxes
One box is 52kg and the other 56kg.
And the boxes are huge - wont fit in a mini

SO i'm waiting to borrow Steve's truck to bring it home so i can bring my engines home too 8)

Oh yeah and i paid $295 from MG & Octagon Autos (Steve's brothers business)

I have one - its painted red but otherwise the same as the SCA one. Its fine and I have used it a bit.

The chinese do very good copies of everything including hoists. No problems with a mini motor at all.

Yeah it should in the back of the panel van - it comes in two boxes and must comply with the OH@S standards for goods handling.

Having said that, when mine arrived at the local carrier depot, it was just thrown on the bak of the ute

8)
Hare and Forbes have got one on special for $229. Lifts up to a tonne and has an 8 tonne double action pump. Considering one of these myself. Only problem I can see with it is that the legs and wheels won't fit under a Mini. This can be solved by putting said Mini up on ramps, which you have to do anyway to undo exhaust, drive shafts etc. Xmas is coming and I am going to hang up a very large stocking.
If anybody has one of these, any reports on using it would be nice.

I've had a Chinese cheapie for years ($299) and it will lift 1000 kg easily. Used it to haul Mini motors and alloy V8s.

After a protracted period of non use the seals needed replacing. I got the local hydraulics fixer to put in some better quality ones.

Before this I used to use a block and tackle suspended from a drive through gantry, but the engine crane is much better and more manoeuverable and folds up so it can be easily stored in a corner of the garage when not in use.

I too just bought a new folding type crane.
I got it from a local place that sells stuff for gas-weld ing
cost 300 bucks. It has foldable legs and 2T lift. The super cheap variety are the same deal, tho they are not rated as high.. only 1250. I also looked at the peps deal for 350, but again it was a yellow supercheap variety with a capacity of 1250
The spread of the legs on the 1250 were a little narrower and shorter, but this does not make much difference with the mini.
Try to see if the Jack has a chrome rod... mine is just bright bar, so it will rust outside and chew out the seals.
ah well, didn't look before I bought it.
also the hook does not swivel, which if you go by aussie standards for lifting equip, it should.... so unless you pick up the motor in the right orientation, or the slings align the motor the way you want it to go you might find it a little difficult by yourself not to scratch anything.
I store mine outside with a plastic bag over the hoist. The castors are steel and I packed the bearings full of grease to keep the water out. (swivel bearings)
the wheels don't move too well on pebblecrete, but most castors don't anyway

As for transporting, it fits nicely in my 7 X 4 trailer, and I can put it in by myself.
good luck
