Post subject: | boot seal |
im currently rebuilding my '66 deluxe at the moment and i ordered a bunch of new seals for it. one of which is the boot seal. i set about pulling the clips out of the boot lid and fitting the new seal into place only to find that the rubber was to hard to allow the boot to close.i applied some rubber softener to it and closed the boot with the aid of four blokes. since then i have left the boot closed for fearing i will never be able to close it again. last night a thought went through my head. is it possible to put a door seal around the boot and have the boot lid push against the rubber as oposed to the rubber on the boot lid? |

Give it time, it will eventually mould into shape. Watch the boot doesn't pop open while driving because of the pressure on the boot latch. The tang onto which the boot locks on is prone to bending when those seals are new. |

Sounds like you want a rover boot seal. They go on the body rather then the lid itself and fit quite snugly. I'm picking one up Friday from agrade for my 850, Agrade ordered it from Karcraft I think. Shard |

i was very recently told that the only clip on seal now available is thicker than the original seal, and they will always be this tight!!! The one in my clubby - fitted about 9 months ago, has slightly improved....but is still tight!!! I just bought another one for my GT. Same type..... ![]() It's either that or a stick on seal ![]() |

I haven't used any rubber conditioner on it YET....but I want to. What did you use and where did you get it? Mine was a real BIACH to close at first, but it is OK now.......certainly not a 4 person job!! ![]() ![]() I would still rather this than a stick on type. The Rover type needs a larger lip around the boot opening to fit onto. I asked Karcraft who import these, and they agreed. |

I was going to buy some seal from Universal Engineering Supplies There are hundreds of profiles to choose from, and you buy it by the metre. Has anyone already done this? |
