Does anyone know what the tare mass of a mini saloon (eg, not van) is?

Dunno if this is on one of the body plates or in a workshop manual somewhere.

This will probably be slightly different between, hydro, dry, roundies & clubbies.

I'd trust the Leyland Oz black book over a Haynes. Pommy cars were different steel thickness and equipment.

Just after i posted that I remembered where my manual is :roll:

Interestingly it lists quite different figures:

Saloon: 1294lb -> 588kg
Van: 1334lb -> 605.09kg
Traveller: 1456lb -> 660.43kg

The book in question is "The Complete Morris Austin Mini Workshop Manual" Published by Scientific Publications, 1st Edition, August 1968.

Kev, what's the "black book"???

Leyland Australia Workshop Manual, 1976. Covers most Oz models.
Still available new from www.pitstop.net.au for $70.

Scientific Pub and many others reprinted stuff from UK books. eg we never had the traveller here. :wink:

I was thinking that. But that is a good thing, as the heavier it is the bigger engine you are allowed to swap in :twisted: (this is in Qld BTW). And you are supposed to take the weight from the heaviest sedan model. And that would be the porky Cooper S at 716.4kg. Which basically means that according to the rules we're allowed an NA engine up to 2149.2cc or turbo'd/supercharged engine up to 1791cc.

Anyone for a SR20 or F20B (2 litre VTEC) :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Maybe even a turbo'd 1600 or some description :shock:

Of course you DO have to actually fit it in there...

Sorry to dig up this old chestnut :oops:
but has anyone actually weighed their van or sedan?
(besides bnicho)

I would like to get an accurate kerb mass, and after searching & reading 16 pages of discussions & despite the figures from both Haynes & Leyland I believe Mad Matt when he says he has weighed them & vans are heavier than sedans.

Talking dry suspensions here people. Just doing my research :wink:
