As i am going to be getting the van out for a run on sunday i thought i should check up the brakes as i noticed tem to be a little spongy last time he was out.
So..... two months ago i replaced the rear drivers side wheel cylinder as it had been leaking. today....i replaced the other one :? I should have known when one was gone that the other won't be far away. oh well. half an hour later it was swapped over, much easier than the last one, took close to 2 hours as everything was seized. thi one was a breeze. of course now i smell like brake fluid :cry:
trick for newby's and brake bleeding.
go to clark rubber or the like and by 4odd meters of plastic hose, big enough to fit over a bleed nipple. attach one end to the nipple and pop the other end into the matser cylinder. crack the nipple and pump the pedal until it runs with no bubbles. do it up, move on to the next one. easy! keep the hose for the next time you need to do it. a good idea is to get something to block up each end of the tube so the fluid left in there doesn't go all over you shed floor. :wink:

um I may be wrong, but was always told to do same but into a jar or similar as what you bleed out usually has contaminants in it, and also has small air bubbles susspended in the fluid that take several hours to disperse.. my dad used to say.. 1 never use old brake fluid except for an emergency... and 2 if you have to use old fluid in an emergency let it stand for at least 2 hours

i guess i should have said, make sure the fluid is new. my system was done about a couple of months ago. This method is good if you have set set of hands. The jar method i find doesn't work as well. but each to there own. If you don't want to try it that way. don't :wink:

yeah i didnt like sounding like mr dissagreee LOL i was also trying to edit to say that my old man was a fireman and part time stuntman at Elstree.. so by no means a mechanic..
my crappy computer keeps dying .. and yes your right its a shithole job to do if your alone.. i did fit auto bleeders to my 47 ford jailbar (falcon front end) and they worked suprisingly well but havent even seen any for years, so perhaps others wernt as lucky with them??

My brother spent once 1/2 a day `bleeding' his Imp brakes Aaron, he couldn't work out why it still had air in. He was putting it in a jar and tipping it into the MC.. :x
It takes 24 hours for the bubbles to all get out of the fluid.
After I told him to top it with fresh stuff only it was bled in 10 mins.
