my mini wont start
when i turn the key it makes a ticking noise but the battery is fine, what does everyone think it could be!?

How do you know the battery is fine? how many volts did you measure? Few things: - Clean the battery terminals - Clean all earths including the one on the rear boot floor and the one on the front subframe. - Check power from the starter solenoid - Try tapping the starter motor or putting the car in gear then rocking it (ring gear may be jammed) As said, it's most like the starter solenoid or starter motor.. |

are you getting a "whirr" sound from the motor? thats the starter. remedy = ? sounds like you have no spark. check the coil, dizzy/points, leads, plugs for current... its heaps easy tyo do it with someone who knows what they are doing (not exactly me...i tried writing it up but it was just rambling) but basically you ahve to see where the spark stops, and thats where the problem lies. id offer more help but im not exactly the expert... |

the battery is freshly charged, and the connections on the battery is fine, tried tapping the starter motor to no avail. Tried rocking the car no good. wher is the starter solonoid? |

I would clean all the earth connections. The negative terminal on the battery where it bolts to the boot floor, unbolt that and clean it. There is on at the front too. The solenoid if facing the front of the car is on the left just above the flywheel, usually connected to the engine steady bar via a bracket. That's what it looks like in the picture below, but it's mounted differently. 
You want to make sure your getting power to the starter motor, so you can measure from here to the starter, do it while someone is cranking the motor. |

Tried checking between terminal closest too front in between two big leads and earth line on the starter motor had seven to eight volts |

I get a whirring noise when i turn the ignition on but when i try to start it just clicks. took coil lead off not getting any spark to body |

ok get some sand paper and clean all the contacts may need to replace the terminals on the wires as well also cleam the terminals at the fuse box clean the battery terminals and as josh said remove the bolt on the earth and clean it to one other thing the batery how old is it ????? it may have droped a few plates with age the batery gets crude on the plates and although you may have twelve volts you wont have the current (ie ampage) to turn the motor and give spark makka |

To the best of my knowledge there is no kill switch!! Tried to start a commodore in drive though. that doesn't work. Even after punching the steering wheel. Could it possibly be dirty fuse connections |

Holler for a Marshall? Are you SURE your battery is charged? You can charge it but it doesn't mean that it is charging. When the solenoid clicks, it is a sure fire symptom of a completely flat battery. Seven volts from the battery backs that up. You won't get a partial voltage at an electrical connection unless there is current passing through it first. This doesn't happen when the car is switched off/not running anyway. What happens is the flat battery is in the boot sitting fat dumb and happy. Once you turn the key there is ample power to pull in the solenoid (it only needs a very little) but once this happens and current runs to the starter motor via the solenoid, it drains the battery of what little current it has (they need about 100 amps to start your clunky old A series). This sucks the voltage out of the battery below the amount capable of holding in the solenoid and so the solenoid drops out. The starter motor doesn't have to turn to do this. Immediately the battery level creeps up high enough to bring the solenoid back in and the whole cycle repeats itself very quickly. Over and Over again very quickly. Maybe a new battery. |
