Went and got my aircon checkout today as it hasnt been blowing out cold air only to find out that the compressor has gone and there is compressor oil throughout the system, ohh and there is a leak in one of the pipe's as well.

Ive been quoted that the compressor will cost around $500 - $600, i was wondering if anyone knew if these were still avalable for the mini and if so is this a resonable price, i would have though being that the air con units were fitted aftermarket in japan they would be a universal part with more than just the mini. i assume that the auto electricain guy knows what he was talking about and i do trust him but i just though id investigate myself before commiting to go ahead and get if fixed

Why do these things have to happnen near christmas and rego, man it sucks haveing rego so close to xmas

and help/opinions would be great

Steve at brickworks brings in a lot of A/C minis and will probably be able to sell you a second hand unit and maybe even the pipe. Give him a ring on 08 82979494. I have always found him to be reasonable and full of good advice.

Yeah i was thinking about trying to get a second hand unit but the only thing that worries me is how gooder condition it is in, cos i dont want to spend all the money to get it all fixed and then to find that it works for a year then carks it on me.

Sorry to hear about this, I can imagine this is worse time of the year to get slugged with an unbudgeted for $500. :(

As stated above I'd call Steve at Brickworx for a price on a 2nd hand one, once you've got a price on a used part then you can decide whether its worth the risk / hassle of going down the 2nd hand path or better to go new. I'll be going to see him late next week in case you want me to bring something home with me.

As for your air-con, have you been using it through the winter? I remembering reading somewhere that you should run your air-con every couple of weeks regardless of the outside temp in order to keep the seals lubricated - is this a myth anybody?

No myth about using the A/C every so often even in winter. Recently had the seals go in my Mayfair... result of not using the A/C for 4 months.... expensive even if easy to fix.

as you have been told give steve a ring at brickwoks, dont worry about if it doesn't work because steve would sent you another. Thats the type of bloke he is. But you would have to get it gassed . Good luck Mate.

Just a quick question has your Rover been hard to start. By that I mean just turning over on the starter but not firing up.

a second hand A/C compressor should be cheap! I bought one yonks ago for my CommonWhore. I would have no problem putting a second hand one in, in lieu of a new one.

In winter, run your A/C with the temp setting on heat. It saves the life of your compressor and gives you a good blast of heat when its freakin c c c c cold!!

Nah havent been having any troubles starting. Why do u ask.

I have spoken to chris at ozcooper and im hopfully take it up to him to get it checked out and fixed, i wouldnt mind doing it myself but not too sure whats involved, and most likely i will get a second hand ac unit fitted anyway.

The air con doesn't have a heater setting, not that i really need it anyway with how well the normal heater works. but i will definelty be running it more often once i have it all fixed

Just got my car back yesterday after taking it up to Ozcooper to get it fixed, boy how good is it to have air con in a mini, i forgot how well it works.

In the end we fould that there are no problems with the compressor which saved a heap of money, the only problem was the leaky pipe, but its all fixed now and its working great. Just shows it worth getting a second opinion and in my case take it to someone that knows mini's
