NAV sounds like he's got straight cut drop gears but the problem is it doesn't. It just got heaps louder like flicking a switch

At idle if i put my foot on the clutch it almost dissapears.
But under acceleration wow! sounds like a sccr box screaming it's head off. it's that bad i can't actually hear the engine anymore. If i back off and slow down using the engine it is just a bit louder than normal.

Tell me the bad news is it time for a re-build of my box? What sorta money am i looking at to get it fully re-built?
I might as well as it's my everyday car.

my box did that too, rebuilt the box, and it still does it, but not nearly as much.

i think one of the main causes is the layshaft, the layshaft in my gbox was quite worn..

apart from that, i've heard maybe the drop gears, but i would like to know more too.

i`d bet it`s chewed out the drop gear bearings (idler gear---the middle one)

it`s the most common cause for what you`ve described

rip it out now,,,don`t drive it,,,metal from there "WILL" totally root your entire engine

Matts dead right ,don't drive it and get it out now, with luck you will only need the idler gear and new bearings

Matt you interested in a re-build for me? Please Please PLEASE!!!
"Easy peasy" for you, payment in your choice of currency
I'd get NAV transported there if you take the job.
Would being difficult to get into first be a sign of this problem? NAV's always been a little hard to get into first.
I have no time anymore to do it myself and i need two cars on the road because i work outside public transport hours AND at the airport
