well, first time she has let me down since registration, my fault first, ran outa fuel yesterday on the way home, about 20 kms from home, filled her up, drove off fine, about 2 kms from home, she just started to splutter and die, as if its getting no fuel, then stopped. after a bit of turning over, she goes again and i drive her home. this happened again this morning, and again coming over the bridge!!! any ideas? is this common? would running out of fuel have bought gunk from the tank into the carb causing a blockage? there is no flat spots or misses, so i think that idea is out. im outa ideas.... the fuel pump maybe? cheers |

makka no, but ill buy a new one tomorrow, the one on the mini was new, but i guess running outa petty could stuff it- cheers! ill let u know how that goes |

Might be worth having a look in the fuel bowl next to the carbie as well. Check it now, and again if it splutters and dies again. If there is fuel in the bowl when the engine dies then there must be a blockage in the carbie. I dunno if this is really a possibility cause I'm not a carbie expert but it seems like it would rule out one possible variable. dewey |

dewey indeed, i will check that to... the mini runs fine, its just every now and then she kicks it in and dies for a while.... strange |

I did that the other day and the fuel was red...  so i tipped it out and found a redish sludge stuff in the bottom....so then i had to scrape that out, ohh how diffucult but my carbie is clean as a whistle now and i hope it works still

lol mine is red to... the fuel is redish, and i would say it leaves a red sediment at the bottom of the fuel bowl.... better there then in ur carb! |

 At least im not the only one who has seen it haha now i can relax  i should start running premium through so that my carb stays clean. do i have to flush fuel lines or empty the tank? anything like that

I would say after running 1.125 tanks of premium through it then virtually all traces of the non-premium fuel would be gone. But don't forget that Premium Unleaded only indicates its a higher octane, 96 (I think) than regular unleaded. It's just as susceptable to contaminants, water and other crap. dewey |

premium unleaded is 95 octane, except Shell Optimax, Mobil 8000 and BP Ultimate which are all 98. LRP is supposed to be 94-95 but varies a lot (downwards...)

Mate get a fuel filter before your fuel pump. This will save your fuel pump and your carb. You could also have crap in your fuel pump if its a electronic SU |
