Hi all,
Got a problem, I was replacing yokes while putting in new Uni's and the yoke
I was sent doesn't match the one I've just taken out.
(See picture below)
Are there different yokes in different models?
My mini is a 72 Clubman 1100 manual.

Hi all, Got a problem, I was replacing yokes while putting in new Uni's and the yoke I was sent doesn't match the one I've just taken out. (See picture below) Are there different yokes in different models? My mini is a 72 Clubman 1100 manual.

What's under that tin cover plate if you take that off 
You might have to just change that over

That tin plate thing doesn't come off, it's spot welded in a few spots. Apart from the tin thingy the yoke appears to be the same. What is the easiest way to get ball joints apart, it seems I was able to remove the dead uni coz there was so much play. I can't get the new one in though. Manual says split steering-tie rod ball joint and lower swivel hub ball joint. Any clues? |

The car had to be sitting on the wheels.Ie jack the car up and sit it back on ramps or place axle stands safly under bottom suspension Arms so you can rotate the wheel. Like this the axles pull away from the centre of the car which gives you more room to manouver them in and out. |

Apart from the tin thingy the yoke appears to be the same. Can you grind off the spotwelds and ping it off then I guess you better spot weld it on the new one

I could grind the welds but it's pretty thin and I only have an arc welder and I'm fairly crap at welding. I've decided to put the old one back in while I find a matching one. I've now replaced both uni's. I wasn't able to get enough room by jacking up the swivel hub, so I purchased a $15 ball joint splitter which worked a treat. (Lot to be said for having the right tools!) Now I know what I'm doing it won't take long to replace that dodgy yoke. Does anyone have a spare inner yoke with the cover intact? |

Unless you are going grass tracking, there is no need for that tin seal. It just stops grass getting caught in the seal. The naked ones work fine.
