1. Mickmini once suggested you pour (clean) motor oil down the chambers through the spark plug holes.

2. you will expect the rubbers (mounts, stabilisers, tyres) to go hard without frequent use. cant do much

3. leave the head on the block, this will prevent it from warping.

4. i think you will need frequent conditioning of the vinyl

best thing to do is to start it up to warm once in a while (eg monthly)
unfortunately as ive been told minis dont go well after not being started for a long time, unless you are willing to give it the whole treatment in ten years :wink:

BEST thing to do would be to speak to a car museum.

But I agree that a good thing to do is regular running of the engine. Last thing you want is rust forming inside the engine from condensation....and things getting stuck!

Running the engine will also keep it clean inside.

Expect your brakes to seize up, too.

Yeah, remove your drum brake hubs.
Once they sieze on they are a PITA to get off

I am storing it as an investment. The rego will run out in august so i will still have a bit of time to research the do's and dont's of storage.

My personal opinion is that cars shouldnt be treated as investments,

If you love the Cooper S and want to preserve it then keeping it clean and like the other guys mentioned start and run it occasionally would be the best way to go about it.

You'd be better off selling the car now and investing the money in property/shares/something else rather than wrapping it in bubble wrap, shutting the shed door and coming back in 20 years to try and sell a car that will need a restoration by that time anyway.

I understand if time and other important reasons keep you from enjoying the car now and you'd like to preserve the car until a time when you can enjoy it.

It's not in a mini enthusiasts spirit to own a Cooper 'S' and not at least take it out and give it a fang around a twisty bend once in a while, thats the reason why you should own one..........

A lot of beautiful cars were ruined for true enthusiasts in the 1980's in America when Money hungry "investors" get into the "market" of classic cars trying to get rich.

I'm definately not implying this is you, i'd just hate to see this happen to minis in australia :wink:
