Post subject:  Buying from UK Ebay
I am thinking about buying a few (bargain) items on UK ebay. Anyone done this? if so can you tell me anything I should look out for like how much freight might cost etc? just general experience of your last ebay UK purchases would be great.

Mate I have bought a lot of stuff from UK ebay. Here are my experiences:

1. My wife gets the poops every time the postive arrives with a UK package.... :lol:

2. The poms like to rip you off with postage, so ask for HONEST postage quotes. I had one guy charge me £8 for postage, when it cost him £3. I had a whinge and he refunded the difference.

3. Pay with PAYPAL...it's piss easy

4. Be carefull how sellers label packages with your address. I had one moron cut out the PAYPAL receipt address and stick it on a package without checking it. PAYPAL show your country of registration (Australia) in your postal address, regardless of what else you put there. I changed the delivery address to my bro's London address, but PAYPAL still insert Aus (go figure). So this package got lost in the mail big time.

Picked up a 1st edition Haynes Mini Manual (gear box rebuild photos are good - not in later editions) for 5 UKP But I had it sent to a friend who had been collecting a number of secondhand items for me including a MK1 heater. The resulting box measured about 2ft cube and cost $180 for surface mail :cry: and took 17 weeks to get here(total cost of goods was $60) Since sold the heater for $200 - decided rewiring was more important than heat in Qld :lol:

just as an after thought, for anyone buying from UK ebay, thinking they are scoring a bargain, check the price against say minispares.com. I almost bought some rubbers from ebay for twice the minispares price....

Buyer be warned.... 8)

Additional watch out for many of the Ebay products will not post OverSea's now. But you can ask if they will post it but with a price attached. I almost purchased some KAD calipers but the shipment price was 98 pounds Shame :cry:

I've bought quite a few items form UK eBay without any problems. 8)

Just always ask questions, even if only to sound out how genuine the guy is. And check the sellers feedback. Lots of positives form overseas bidders is a good sign!

Yea weigh the cost benefits vs the shipping cost. Youre best getting small light expensive items like carbs, switches, lights etc. Its pointless to buy books for eg coz they are dirt cheap but are atleast 1kg each = killer shipping.
