Post subject: | Flares or no flares |
Hi people, I just want your honest opinion, should I keep my 1968 delux roundnose without flares??? I want disc brakes and have LS offset wheels (so I can get 7.5 inch brakes without needing flares) but: 1) 2 of the LS Contessas are stress cracked. I have baught one wheel to replace it but they are as hard to find as chook's teeth! I am scared that in 10 yrs time I will have the same problems again with these wheels 2) I want discs 3) I want to keep the car as original as possible on the outside, but that said she's already red with white roof and the contessas are already white ![]() ![]() 4) i am aiming for a sleeper look and I think flares make the ricers want to go em at the lights ![]() I am totally two minds about it... 7.5inch discs cost a fortune no matter which way i want to look at it... on the other hand, a few $100 for very good honda discs is very attractive solution, but even then I need flares and regular contessas at the minimum (like Kev's car). ![]() ![]() ![]() Current look: ![]() and I like the look. Should I just save and get the 7.5"? Opinions please... |

Kev says "all the delux's and minis have flares these days" and he's right! i don't mind those S flares, they look hot, but again, it aint an S! I dun want S anything on the outside cause I don't want to seem like a tryhard "pfft fake S". No offence to anyone of course... The fact is I like the fact that it's a plain delux, I just want to soup up the performance under the bonnet only... Talk to me people!!! |

My Opinions Only..... Flares are expensive, they are easy to break and one extra thing to worry about. If you don't need them, don't put them on. If you do go for them, get original ones, not cr@@py fibreglass copies or innocenti screw on type. |

Yeah never mind the cost of flares, cause good flares + honda discs are still WAY cheaper than 7.5" cooper discs! Is it too much to ask for a 14 sec Delux without flares?? ![]() |

As you can see in the pic, she looks good the way she is... I think flares will kill the "classic" look that she's got currently don't you think?? I am also thinking about plugging the antenna hole back to original so there is no antenna there... Then again, when I look at old Works minis of the past, they all have flares ![]() |

nah flares wont kill the classic look! ![]() remember you dont have to get massive 6 inch wide flares....just get some that are similar to S flares...like subtle, but still cover the wheels....it'll look sweet and you wont look like a tryhard......plus you'll have heaps better braking power than with the drums |

Braking power is what i want, I guess I am definately not going for concourse on this car anywayso I guess I can do 'some' mods on the body. Seriously, do you think the classic look will be retained with S flares?? *gone to look at S flared cars...* |

i welded up my aerial hole. Much cleaner look. I am trying to find an aerial I can mount inside the car, so nothing is on the outside at all ![]() |

Yeah that'll be sweet... So 2 alternatives: Option 1 - Flares S Flares $200? Civic Brakes conversion $100-$300? regular offet contessas $??? Option 2 - No Flares Cooper 7.5" brakes $1400+ I think I have to consult the good Doctor about the civic conversion and my options... then make a descision. I wish the coopers were cheaper! problem solved! ![]() |

brand new tessas can be had for about $500 i think.....but second handies go for $200-300.......so it definately should be a lot cheaper no matter what...especially if you still need to get another LS offset wheel |

One other thing to note, my car once had 7.5" discs, I am sure of it. and I am sure it never had flares too... More reason to stay "original"? cmon boys, talk me into one or the other!!! ![]() |
