Did anyone notice the story in the Cars section in the Sydney Telegraph, about the HK Monaro that sold for $55 000 !
It was a genuine 327 plated car, but what was so surprising is the condition it was in. It was just a bare gutted, rusting shell with no paint and in really average condition.
Not a low mileage vehicle.
It had most of it's original parts, interior, engine, grill , badges etc packed in boxes and you would have thought you could buy it for under $5000 !
It was a genuine plated 327 with correct engine, chassis and gearbox, but that's it.
Apparantly it hadn't been driven for around 4 years.
Makes you wonder what our classic mini's will be worth in a few years.

I saw this car at shannons. I believe it was 1 in 300 bathurst model, Which is why it went for so much, And the body was in very good nick

It was the one at shannon's, number 277 of 300.
Didn't they have to produce 300 cars to allow it to run at Bathurst ? They did say even the shannon guy's were surprised, expecting to go for around $ 20 000.
I remember seeing them for sale, around the $5000 mark in the early 80's. I had a HQ 308 Monaro and my best frind had the genuine 350 yellow and black HQ in immaculate condition. I nearly bought it in 1989 for $10 000.
It was in untouched prestine condition.shock:

this is scary, my brother had a HK 327 bathurst, they are great, it came with a 120L centre fuel tank, 3inch tail shaft, rear tramp rods and radius arms, tacho in centre console, 4 speed saginaw gearbox. it was a real muscle car one of the best many say they are better than the HG or HT 350's becuuse the 327 had a shorter stroke and revved hard but just as quick.

this car was pretty much original when he sold it but had been off the road for rust for 2 years and the body cond was poor, he sold it to a friend he knew for 12K, this was 4 years ago now i wonder if it was it?

was there any pics of it ?

not sure the number of his but it had HK3271 rego plates

I'm suprised these Monaros have not yet outstripped the XY GTHOs for rarity/price :?

They are certainly a much more beautiful classic muscle car :)

There was a picture of it, but it wasn't registered and it didn't have a front - grill, bumpers, headlights etc ( packed away I assume ). Correcting my last post, it was build number 227 and it has been off the road since 1982.
I prefer the Charger myself and A9X, to the GTHO.
