Post subject:  WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!!?!?
big strong mechanics suck.
and now i cantget that stupid oil filter out
and cant even nudge it at all
it sjut on so tightly
i have done everything !!
i have a oil filter remover thing
and the wrech that fits it... and i have even pierced the filter with a screw driver, ho[ing that it would be able to nudge the stupid thing!
BUT NO

my back is sore
and my arms hurt

and i unscrewing the the wrong way? is it clockwise or anti clockwise i have to turn it?!

so tell me what i am doing wrong
either the filter is on too tightly..
or i am just dumb!!

There is the problem that sometimes when people put on oil filters they forget to smear some oil over the rubber O ring which makes them very hard to get off. :evil:

I figure it has to come off especially now it has a hole in it :( so just keep trying.

I don't have a oil filter removal tool so I use a bit of rope tied in a loop with a open ended ring spanner inserted into the loop so it tightens up the loop as I twist the spanner. I use a screw driver or another spanner at the other end of the open ender. :wink: means if I can't get it undone I need to go find another (longer) spanner or screw driver to stick on the end.

It does tend to crush the oil filter though :roll: but who cares as long as I can get it off :wink:

We had a filter that wouldn't budge on my cousins Clubman when he first bought it.

We had to go to the extent of taking off the filter head and carefully attack the filter with a hacksaw. :evil:

i reckon filters should be done up handtight only, once things heat up things get tighter
before you warm your car, you should undo it a little whilst cold
it will be easier to get off while hot

emme try waiting for things to get cold again
or tap the screwdriver with a hammer

it comes off like all threads: anti c to undo

nothing has worked thus far
and it is actually cold atm.. i have been trying for two days now.. :oops:

ad i really do feel like a retard becasue i cant undo a screw :S

my final thought is to turn it clockwise.. becasue the filter is upside down...
but i might be wrong??


and yes.. mighty gafmo might be able to rescue lil Betty!

Yes, if you are looking down through the engine bay.

Sometimes they can be a real bugger - don't feel bad.
Once I did that with the screwdriver hammered right through & out the other side and put my full force behind it - ended out ripping the oil filter in half :x

I find this works well:

Make a hole in the side of oil filter (might need to be a bit bigger then a screwdriver) and stick a bunger in there.. light the fuse, stand back, and the oil filter should come off nicely by it's self. You may have to replace a few other engine parts that get damaged in the process.

Went through this on Saturday
Ended up disconnecting the oil cooler hoses, taking off the filter and the carrier and locking the filter in a pipe vice and heaps and heaps of muscle. Resist the temptation to stick a screw driver in the bolt holes and twist from there. Doing that will only break the bolt holes off.

Then - once the filter is off - get someone to run a die up the thread as you can almost guarrantee the thread is stretched.
