On ny MK1 Cooper S i have oil coming up 2 of the head studs, the one on the left front of the head next to the heater tap & the one beside it, actually a fair amount is flowing up them, they are torqued to the right torque. Anybody got any ideas?????????????? Doogie |

sounds like it might be time to lift the head and replace the head gasket, if it is actually comming up the studs, doesnt sound to flash Jon |

Use a turbo gasket (BK450) if not already- the copper ones tend to do this more, as well as pi$$ water out along the front of the head. ![]() |

Doogie I read or heard something about this in the haze of my past. Not pockets of oil trapped in the stud holes finally bubbling out ????? I think from memory it was the studs biting into porous (crystallising) metal right above oil galleries. I think the cure was tapping and helicoiling the stud holes but as i said its a hazy recollection. Is this still the same block that spent 8 hours at 7,000 rpm some decades ago ???? |
