For christ sakes, i'm bloody sick of this car.

I finally get the show together, got my AutoMeter temp gauge on, not overheating, not leaking oil out the sump-plug, exhaust not leaking, changed the split gear lever boot, one exhaust mount, changed the oil and filter and she was all SWEET. :D

I took it out for a cruise through the city on Sat night, and even drove it to work on Monday, just for the simple fact it was all running fine. Had a bewdt of a time stirring up the traffic in a LOUD mini. Loved every minute of it :D

Until...

I must've said something wrong. I told one of my mates on Sunday arvo: "Just watch, it'll be a week, and the car will all go pear shaped now that its all running fine".

I shouldn't have opened my big mouth :cry:

On the way home from my Car club meeting at 10.00 at night, and the freakin' exhaust falls off. This time in a spectacular showering of sparks. At about 60kmh.
I only replaced the front (square rubber) mount on Friday. $30 for that one :shock:

Anyways, my $420 JunBL blingo muffler is rooted. Its got about a 2-inch long hole in it. And dents..
And gravel rash everywhere...

It broke the square rubber mount in half, and cracked through the steel bit from the pipe to the rubber bit on the back.

Now, my exhaust has so far cost me $1000 for custom extractors (with 2 year warranty), and the rest of the pipe and muffler. And now its farked. What do i do? Two 'professional' places have had a go and both SUCK.

I had problems with the rear exhaust mount(the one on the rear subframe).This just kept on ripping/tearing the rubber section from the steel backing plate. But I've got a rear swaybar fitted and the muffler would "rest" onto the swaybar,and not fall onto the road.
So-I wonder which mounting failed first,then put strain onto the other mounting,then dropped your exhaust system...

Maybe forget about fitting "blingo" crap that slows you down and doesn't work, costs a fortune and is obviously fitted by ricer rip-off artists who wouldn't know their arse from a cupcake - instead fit items that actualy improve performance and economy, sound nice and cost reasonably (such as an RC40 exhaust at $180 all up for standard twin box system and approx $250 for the same in bling stainless).

Oh and no need for a dust bin sized mufflers to be heard - I've got a straight through muffler and a standard 1 3/4'' pipe and I still get stoped by cops.

Question are you useing a rod change box and if so do you have the Engine steady on the Radiator side.

Otherwise the JB (Ekk) muffler maybe to heavy for the mounts and replace it with something more conventionaly. You could also use some wire and secure it to the subframe.
Don't sell it you have put to much effort into it already

You must get the square rubber mounting block to take the weight of the exhaust straight up and down, If it has the slightest twist or bending it will tear and very quickly. The way I did mine was to fit the exhaust pipe in to the final position then bent and filed up a metal bracket to fit. The exhaust pipe must pass straight under that square mounting block.
The last straw was having to sneak home like a junkyard dog wagging a great big tail. It was night time so everytime I stopped at lights someone would tell me my car was on fire :oops:

i think you can get the square mount that instead of haveing the metal bit glued to the end has a blot right threw it this would stop the exhaust falling off

First decent mod I did was to piss off the standard exhaust mounts.
The middle mount is one of those diamond types, with a horizontal hook on the car and on the pipe.

The rears are even more simple just being two of the commodore figure-8 types.

works a treat.

All I need now is a new exhaust system!!!!

Dude bad luck but i gotta agree with what other people say if you got a bling exhaust make sure it is looked after by some good mounts. I kained my commo exhaust on a rail line and a stray rock now it goes rattle rattle ping every time i stop or reverse :(

Sorry guys, but i do in fact have the top rad-side engine steady bar fitted.

Infact, all mounts and bushes are new. Rubber ones too, not Nolathane. This is what shits me the most. I have spent every dollar, not been a tightarse about anything i've ever done to the car, and it still refuses to play our reindeer game. :cry:

The Blingo Muffler doesn't weigh much more than willy's RC40/Lukey similar spec box, but it just looks tough, sounds even better (Its only a Resi so it soesn't muffle much) And as Gaf would appreciate, its SHINY :roll:

I'd hate to say it, but the JunBL is staying if i can get it patched. I like the tough barking rasp too much to bin it. I think everyone else likes the sound, too.

I want to try these new-car type mounts, as most new cars don't seem to lose their exhausts too often. I already have the flexi, so i'm half way there.

get the steady bar that goes at the BOTTOM of the engine . do a search there was pics of one up recently
