Hi team, Only had my mini for a few days.Still finding out about all of it's idio-synchrosies.Just can't get it into reverse while the engine's running.Lift and pull, right. CRUNCH! Have to turn her off, select reverse, then restart.I'm dreading the day I have to reverse in traffic or emergency. From 'R' back to 1st is ok.Is it syncro or something? I know bugger-all about these things so please be patient! Thanks in advance, Gav '76 clubby. |

Check your oil could be low, or too thick..do you know what oil is in it? could be dragging the idler gear..(i think) Try going into first before you select reverse, see if that helps.. Clutch may also not be disengaging properly...may be a number of things, worn out clevis pin/clutch arm, master/slave cylinder, adjustment etc.. Pretty sure there is no synchro on reverse... |

Does your clutch engage/disengage very close to the floor ? ie like you gotta push the pedal thru the firewall ?? and what happens if you pump the clutch pedal a few times?? Does it work better?? ![]() ![]() |

Another very common cause is people fit Clubby type brake master cylinders instead of the proper clutch one. As these are only 0.7" diameter instead of 0.75", they move less fluid and therefore the clutch doesn't free properly. If it has a plastic fluid reservoir, look on the body 1/2 way up- if marked 0.7 it's the wrong one. ![]() |

Thanks guys.I've no idea what type of oil is in it.Castrol something! I'll change it so at least i'll know what's what there. The clutch seems to work ok.Nothing odd in pedal feel or travel, etc. I'll check the other things, too. I have a feeling that at some time in the cars life a PO has played around with things in a dodgey fashion.Little things like two nuts next to each other, one with a washer under it,the other without (I'm funny like that)! And god knows what else! Gav. |
