Ive been looking gor a reasonably priced genuine cooper S and two of the Coopers for sale at the moment have both been deseamed.

Why did the owners do this?

How much value does the car lose by being deseamed?

Is it fair to say that a 4/5 Mk 1 is worth 13k thus the same car deseamed is worth $8k.?

A 3/5 Mk1 is worth $10K and the same car would be worth $6k deseamed?

( in my scale I say 1/5 is a non goer with 95% parts supplied or a rusty body and 5/5 is a concourse winner)

Dom

Also whats a 3.5 out of 5 1275 LS worth and which would you prefer as a daily driver.

The car doesn't lose value,
people just won't pay as much for something where it will be a costly and
time consuming job to make any repairs on the shell if need be.
A lot of panel beaters wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Dunno what the LS is worth, mate.

But i'd go with the LS for a daily driver. Doesn't attract the same 'theft' attention as a Cooper, nor the price tag. Also, remote-type gearbox bits are getting a little thin on the ground now. At least the LS got all A+ gearbox bits, and these are coming into the country with the Rovers that Brickworx is importing.

Remote parts will inevitably be remanufactured and regrdless its a superior arrangement to the twin chopstick rod change.

Often the type of person who'll deseam a mini, would also be calling any mini a Cooper (or a Coopa) or my favourite a "Cooperess". Are you sure they're original cooper s's?

Anybody who would deseam a genuine S these days (or Clubby GT, or LS) is a dickhead of the first order, IMO.

There are plenty of lesser Minis to hotrod, if that is your thang...

I've seen a few Minis come up for sale in NZ that have been deseamed, and in most cases the registration has lapsed. The car is now junk and can never be registered on the road in NZ as there is no way of making a deseamed car legal, i.e. no engineer will sign them off. I believe that cars that have been deseamed and signed off before the legislation may be legal.

Unfortunately, these cars are offered for sale without people being aware they may be buying a car they can't drive on the road. And IMHO, a deseamed roof looks like crap - reminds be of a bowler hat. Standard is good.

I reckon the red (deseamed) S that was on ebay recently for around 8k had rust issues, and the quick fix was to chop the rusted seams off!

Personally, I would not go near a deseamed Mini. You don't know what is under the paint in the areas where the seams once were :?

I wouldn't touch a de seamed car either and many other people fell the same way, when you watch cars that can't sell on EBay. In my opinion, they are only good for parts. Your obviously talking about that blue car from Foster and it was absolute criminal what was done to that car. I do think it lower's the value, because no one want's them.

Doogie knew of an LS for $6500 a while back, ask him if it's still for sale.

Personally I love the deseamed look, so long as you leave the gutters on 8)

Would never do it to a classic such as a genuine Cooper S though

You cant say I wouldnt touch it!!!

Everything has a price even if they have to give you $200 to take it away.

What I want to know is what is the red Cooper S on EBAY worth. $6k or $8k.

I know its not worth 11,500.

Also Ive seen the $6.5k 1275 LS. Its had a quick slap of paint OVER the rust and despite the job being weeks old the rust is starting to shine through. Also it has non original engine and strange wheels and a few other things, plus no rego and no Road worthy.

I think its worth $4.5k in that condition and its been for sle for 4 months with no offers.

A guy on Ausmini under the name Chris, had an original Hi Ho Silver LS he wanted about $6000 for, ages ago. Lives at Marrickville and it was the 9 th last ever built. I don't know if it's still for sale, but you could give it a go.
I don't think the red de seamed Cooper is worth $8k IMO.You just have to look at how long it's been for sale.

Cheers
Brendan

My question is also why?? does it really look any better? if you are going to have a classic mini, you'd want to keep it classic right? That's like putting a Skyline ricer carbon firbre wing on a classic mustang. WHY??? Doesn't go any faster... costs heaps of money... :?
