Post subject: | Rear Brakes Thingo |
Hi! Im sorting out my brake lines in the rear, and I wanted to know how I can test this thing to see if it needs replacing... ![]() What is it called? Apart from cleaning it up, what else do I have to do before refitting it? |

Looks like a bias valve - no idea how to test if not connected to the master cyl. ![]() |

yeah, bias valve sounds about right. Thanks mate! Well, until I find out how I can suss out if I need a new one or not, I'll just blast it with some sand, and paint ![]() |

That thing controls the amount of hydraulic pressure between the front and rear brakes. I have been told that they very rarely need replacing or repairing because I was in the same position as you are in. I just put mine back on. |

pull it apart and clean out crud if there is any. check to make sure piston moves freely and the o rings are not perished. if they are there is a kit you can get pretty cheap to make it all good again. |

No,,,not a bias valve or a proportioning valve it`s called a pressure limiting valve std mini (drum brake type) ones allow more pressure to the rear that the "S" (disc) ones & therefore 2 different kits avaliable normally they don`t give trouble & also you can mnake them adjustable if you like ![]() tricky hey? ![]() easy-peasy |

Not the same thing, Mick.. Rear pressure of this one stays same as front ,until valve moves and locks it off. Not much difference really in pressure setting between S one and others, main difference is S has 5/8" rear wheel cyls not 3/4" so less likely to lock up. |
