Hi!
Im sorting out my brake lines in the rear, and I wanted to know how I can test this thing to see if it needs replacing...
What is it called?
Apart from cleaning it up, what else do I have to do before refitting it?

Looks like a bias valve - no idea how to test if not connected to the master cyl.

yeah, bias valve sounds about right. Thanks mate! Well, until I find out how I can suss out if I need a new one or not, I'll just blast it with some sand, and paint

That thing controls the amount of hydraulic pressure between the front and rear brakes. I have been told that they very rarely need replacing or repairing because I was in the same position as you are in. I just put mine back on. |

pull it apart and clean out crud if there is any. check to make sure piston moves freely and the o rings are not perished. if they are there is a kit you can get pretty cheap to make it all good again. |

No,,,not a bias valve or a proportioning valve it`s called a pressure limiting valve std mini (drum brake type) ones allow more pressure to the rear that the "S" (disc) ones & therefore 2 different kits avaliable normally they don`t give trouble & also you can mnake them adjustable if you like

it`s called a pressure limiting valve cruel Matt...pressure limiting front to rear is also called proportioning (ask ya Dad ).....

Not the same thing, Mick.. Rear pressure of this one stays same as front ,until valve moves and locks it off. Not much difference really in pressure setting between S one and others, main difference is S has 5/8" rear wheel cyls not 3/4" so less likely to lock up. |
