Post subject:  aerials

I welded up my clubman aerial hole, and to be honest I don't want to put another aerial onto it. Is there an aerial you can have, that doesn't require drilling into the roof or a guard?

I want to have a stereo in it, but can I without a body mounted aerial?

Any suggestions?

would be happy to mate - no probs. It's dead easy. You would need to respray your guard though, or roof, wherever it is mounted. The heat from the welder would burn your paint.....
I am thinking about mounting a hidden aerial inside the cabin, but I am sure it wont give good reception.....

The early Galants (GA, GB) used to use the bootlid as an aerial. The lid itself was insulated against the hinges using rubber mountings and presumably it had an aerial wire running around the rim of the bootlid somehow. Seemed to work.

Places like Jaycar have books on aerial technology. Maybe you could rig up something along those lines.

Presumably chrysler/Mitsu used the boot rather than the bonnet to cut down on electrical noise under the bonnet interferring with the radio.

yea not a bad idea Kevin...cheers mate, will check it out.

What I am trying to achieve from all this is a clean exterior line, not ruined by bolt on bits, including an aerial.

I had a roof mounted aerial on one of my Torries and it used to leak onto my rear vision mirror and drip from the day/night lever on the mirror..... I don't want another one of those.....

My friends Toyota Soarer rear glass demister doubles as an aerial, its like the from the factory, and he says it works quite well.

Id also be interested in peoples input on this, as the car we are almost finished restoring needs an aerial but i dont want to cut holes in the body

I'm going to put an aerial in mine even though I don't have a radio.

Whoever did the body work did a dodgy job of covering the aerial hole with bog and the paint is bubbling and looks poo.

sounds like a goer to me. If it gives good enough reception then I am better off having that than a roof mounted leak trap....

Of course not all roof mounted aerials leak, I just want clean exterior lines with no bolt ons :D
