This is my 69 Mini K van In production 69, 70 and possibly very early 71 The mini K was released to celebrate Leylands take over of BMC in Australia. The only thing not standard on this van is the level of trim. It has the instruments of the K sedan as originally the van were a poverty pack (no frills) single instrument binical with plain door cards. I prefere the level of trim from the sedan and carried the trim through to the rear. It has an 1100cc motor with 4 syncro gearbox. they also used the 850 grill which so many people think is wrong (originality its right) I have the K van brochure which I will scan and post. The brochure also said BMC would paint the van any colour to match your fleet at no extra cost. The K van also had the same seat pattern as the sedan and MKII S and a wiggly wand gear lever. I also have a 61 morris 850 traveller made two months into production which will hopefully be restored in 2006. steve ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Vans were built right through until end of Australian production, we have just got a Clubby one that was built 3/1978. ![]() Later ones like this had the rodchange gearbox. ![]() |

Where the travellers available in Australia, or are they an English import only? I'd love to put a rear seat in my van..... |

Only as an import, never made here. Some dealers did offer a converted van here, but it's not quite the same ![]() |

Very early vans had flat roofs, later ones were ribbed with opening roof vents. Mine is one of the latter but for a 40 year old vehicle is in remarkable condition. I replaced the doors with wind up window types and the two rear doors with a lightweight one piece fibreglass variety. The bonnet is single skin lift off fibreglass and is exceptionally light. Still has all the other original panels including the floors and subframes. The grille is now a chromed MK2/3 English 850/1000 type (not wide slat Cooper S). I've added perspex rear and side windows (not to the doors), Cooper S discs, and a worked 1100S engine (now out about to be replaced by another, this time 1360). It has a remote 1100S gearbox with Mk1 Cooper S ratios and a 3.4 diff. Selby shockers and adjustable knuckles at the front. Inside it has a Clubman thre dial dash with a central auxillary gauge housng out of a Gemini fitted with Smiths gauges from a Rover SD1, and Cobra Classic l/w seats. The battery has beeen moved to under the load floor. Mini vans can actually carry an astonishing amount of gear in the back, even more if you remove the passenger seat. They were so prolific in the '60s and 70's - many tradesmen used them and some public utilities as well. No one ever took much notice because they were so commonplace. Now they are something of a rarity and novelty on our roads - and they sure do attract attention. |
