hey every one,

my name is Jacob this is my brothers mini which i have taken over cause im turning 18 soon and i need a car and that was just sitting there and i recon it would be a great little thing to be driving around on my p's.

it needs a bit of work like engine rebuild its a 998 and im looking for a 1100 crank to put in it so if anyone has one lying around let me know since i already have the engine in bits already and need parts for it to get it going again, would like to know a good cam to put in it since it was a stock motor, also i maybe putting a turbo on it in the future so should i go dish top pistons to lower the compretion or not worry about it and just put another set or flat tops in it

the car needs a new paint job so im going to do the body work myself and then send it somewhere to get it painted cause i dont want to stuff it up, the coulours i would like to go is maybe a light green body with a white roof so that should look good

I will also be doing some other mods to the car once i have done the roadworthy cause i want it to pass before i modify any of it :P so if anyone wants to give me some ideas of what i should do let me know cause im open for suggestions

anyway here are some pics for use to look at to show you what i have done so far

Top stuff, Cam wise alot of people here are using the RE-13 from Graham Russel in Sydney..Obviously if you go turbo you will need a different cam to suit. I would go NA with some flat tops OR grab the supercharger kit on here and run an SC12..

I like the look of it stock :) leave it, save your money and work that motor and you'll have a real sleeper 8)

HEy mate, welcome to ausmini!

poeee and i are down in geelong too.

If you need any mini meccanical knowledge/parts/someone to run ideas by, I'd recommend Pete at BMC in nobility st, moolap. He's in one of the units near the portarlington road end. He'' probably also be able to recoomend a decent painter for your mini.

Also, you're welcome to show up to our social night, which will be next wednesday (20th), and there is a social night in melb tomorrow night if you can find someone to drive you up (see events section)

awesome ride, looks alot like my mini only mine is mettalic blue (same sorta shade), the front bottom panel is black and the drivers side door is dark blue with alot of paint spots on it and scratches. and dosen't have the stripes down the side. I am gonna do mine up as a project aswell.

if your looking into modifying the look of your mini, a good thing to start with are mags and wheel arches. thats just my opion. your imagination is your only limit (once you win the lottery or inherit a lot of money).

if your looking to moddify performance... i don't know. i myself am gonna start with disc brakes and then a 1275cc engine. (and whatever else needs to be done inbetween)

it all depends on money...time...and you.

G'day Jacob and hope you have fun in here and with building up your Mini, You know you have to give it name

Here are some idea's for you on mod's to your Engine..Non Turbo or Supercharger just to keep the price down
Re13 Cam Yep I agree....1098 Crank which wil make it a 1098 engine get the Bore checked and if needs work get the next bore size +20, +40, +60thou with the normal Pistons. Get the Head opened up thier are many places in Melbourne that can help you with the block and the head work and have a chat to Poee/Adee regarding. Carb well you have many choice, Twin 1 1/4, 1 1/2 HiFF38 or 44 or you could go Dellorto 40

Gear bo while its off get a Compation Diff Pin put in. The box is a trick one and could cost you anywhere between $500 and 1500 to get perfect, an chance you can find out if it was poping oiut of gear or anything else :?:

Additonaly..get your brakes perfect..its a must do first even if you stay with the drums

Otherwise welcomb to the gang and we will look forward to up dates

thanks for the welcome

i was thinking of putting the turbo in like in the future some day just trying to get the internals of the engine done, back in the car and painted before im 18 so i have a bit of work ahead of me but at least i have started.

i got some parts late in the day that i ordered for the engine so that is getting me somewhere but what is really stoping me is a crank and cam they are the most important things i need for the engine since i will take it somewhere to get it all the bearings all measured properly and ballanced and all that.

i have a 1 1/2 su carby for the car already and another set of stock 13" rims to go on when its all on the road :D

yeh i think the body looks good the way it is give it a wash and a polish and spend you money on making it mechanical good first, a well tuned 1100 goes pretty well anyway

good luck :)

Are P Platers restricted in Vic these days?

Personally if you are going to turbo it "sometime in the future" I would build a high strung NA motor, High compression big head..get a bigger carb, 40mm Dellorto or 1.75" HIF44....You will regret not doing that when your driving around in that nice new motor that's a slug cause it was built for boost.

Stick with those stock 10" wheels, they will crap all over the 13's in the handling department too ;)

the body on the car is very straight but the paint on it is all faded and there has been primer sprayed on some spots where it was getting some surface rust but i have only found 1 little rust hole and the boot is great no rust in there at all but it would look great with a new paint job

where would i be able to get one of these re13 cams from and i think there is restrictions for p platers with high performance cars like v8 and turbo's

Russell Engineering does the RE-13 cams, sent him a stock cam and he'll grind it and send back.
His address is 113A North Rocks Rd, North Rocks, NSW.

PM sent.

one other thing I just Noticed xplosion77. Can you Please get some Axle stands and put them under the sub frame and not rely on the Hydro Jack only. Otherwise you clubby can end up on the ground and possibly with you under it.

Saftey First Please
