Can anyone tell me on what Can be done to fix a Flat spot once I installed the K&N Tapered Filter to my 1.75" HIF SU Carb.

I have change the Dash Pot oil From Auto Tranny Fluid all the way up to a 25W 60 Engine Oil.

The only other thing that I think it could be is that the Piston spring is too weak or the Needle is too Lean NOW that it is getting more air.

The Flat spot is usually around 3 - 4 Grand and only notice when I want to feed it some Juice to make it go.

Any Help would be great

Brett

Mate!

What filter did you have B4

The oil you are useing is to think and should be useing Su oil or sawing machine oil.

If you have changeed from a normal airfilter (Paper) to a foam it will change how it is tuned, You may need to change the Mixture/idel or even the needle :?:

Someone may be a little more spacific on this

It used to have a orginal paper filter setup and Yes I have tuned Carb I am currently sourcing a larger needle.

SU Carb oil is too thin for what I need it is close to the Auto tranny fluid.

My Old Man Runs a 10W 30 Engine oil in his and it is all ok.

I used to run Auto fluid in the Twin setup I had with out any trouble at all.

The right oil to use can vary carb to carb as the wear in the damper varies. I always found taking the filter off and lifting the piston up myself, and I could usually tell if it was to hard to push or too light. If you have just come from one of those stock filters, they dont flow so well so a needle change in this instance might be in order. Try richening the mix at idle (temporarily) and taking it for a spin and see what its like. Usually if the oil is at fault the flat spot is still there even if you run it rich, just slightly less noticeable.

I was having these tuning problems with my HS4. I bought a Dell'orto

K & N fileters do not need to wrung out as thet have a wire mesh on them, And yes I have richened it up on the mixture screw and still flat stop.

The Needled in my Carb is a BCE I have now fitted a RF and it still has a flat sopt I have been loking at fitting the RA needle to se what happens then.

Any way the oils in the dash pot that I used all had the same effect on the Flat stop and at the same position in the rev range under load in forth gear.

i dunno but maybe there might be a underlying problem like the butterfly shaft might be worn or the points might be out or timeing or many another thing mini's are a fickle maching just bumping a wire can have dramatic affect

I like sidedraft Dellortos & Webers now... just jet 'em, forget 'em... :P
