Me aint good at wires!!!

I ****** started a fire under the bonnet tonight!!!

I connected the starter solenoid to the positive on the alternator, turned the battery kill switch to on and POOOOF!!!! The bonet was alight! Smoke, flames!!!

I knew there a reason why there were 2 unmarked plugs at the back of the alternator!!! :? :(

Whole garage smells of burnt PVC and I ****** have a brown stain in me undies from it!

So anyway my alternator woes have ONLY just begun! :(

Dude I'm sorry its my fault, I wrote you a complete set of instructions with all the precausions etc in response to your PM and was gonna post it in the horn topic, but explorer crashed on me and I lost the whole long post and didn't have the time to write it again because of uni and my car which is still stuck alone in Broadway.

I'll post a complete guide on how to do it tonight, but the main thing to remember is to connect the B+ plug to the starter and the light wire to the L side on the moulded plug (if its the Bosch alternator).

BTW are you sure that you had an alternator in your car before and not a dynamo? What side of the battery is connected to the body of the car?

Yeah thanks Kev mate!

The reason why I called ya in the first place was "hey doc, errr there are 2 terminals at the back, which one should I stick it into?"

Naah it aint that bad, I just hope I didn't short anything permanently :(

Yeah there's an 8TR in there too... not sure why though...

If you remember, you said it had a Clubbie alternator... and they have two + terminals.. :?

<edit> The 8TR probably died so they fitted a 4TR. They are all cr@p these days, IMO- I gave mine away with the POS alternator (after 3 rebuilds) and got a late Clubbie alt. No worries...

So just to confirm again Kev, there shouldn't be any other permanent dammage right???

I think I've had enough for tonight... I will buy new thick wire and try again tommorrow... This time I'll have the fire department on speeddial
