I found at last the reason the deluxe has been running badly for years and finally stopped running at all.

The ignition switch. Is. Buggered. Very Buggered.

So it is going on the hypothetical scrap heap and I will replace it with a starter button and a switch for the accessories. Anyone done this, or have some tips on what needs to be done?

Cheers
Matt

I replaced the fancy ignition switch / lock on my steering column with a simple Mk1 dash mounted switch when the former packed up. I mounted the old type ignition switch into the steering column shroud where the later type had been. Also installed a battery kill switch and a separate (hidden) switch for the fuel pump. Final security upgrade was a quick release steering wheel which can be easily removed and replaced in seconds.
