I was stuffin around in the shed today and came across my old cylinder head from my clubman (its cracked and i still havent fixed it). On further inspection i discovered the casting number is not one i have seen before. Where my other two heads have 12G202, this one has ECAM4004. Also noticed the inlet and exhaust ports are alot bigger than the 12G202, but this head my have had work done as it was on the car when i bought it about 3 yrs ago. So does anyone know what the hell an ECAM4004 head is?? coz im stumped.

it's a late head, 998 I think- does it have air injection ports on the front, near the spark plugs?

Early A+ were leaded, up until `86, `87 or so.

Rover unleaded exhaust seats are austenitic steel (ie non-magnetic). Pull the exhaust valves, then see if a magnet (Mini sump plug will do) will stick to the seats in the head. If not, it's unleaded.

yea the motor ran like crap till i put my new 12G202 on it. Why would anyone put a 998 head on an 1100 motor?

Because they got one..
Our Barney had a 998 with the 998 smog head- a well known Mini place (now defunct) put a 1098 crank & pistons in. Didn't even bother to fit a harmonic balancer, they left the 998's tin crank pulley on instead. Not good news for the longer stroke crank.

Ahem - The genuine Rover inserts are copper-berylium (sorta orangey coloured) not steel. KC.

Maybe now? but the ones I got from MiniSpares UK in Rover packets are not. Either the 998 or 1275 ones.
