Post subject:  She wont start :(

Lets just start this one with Merry Xmas to all!
Ok, now we got passed that......she wont start!
I get a lovely ticking noise from the engine when trying to turn it over.
I can push start it however.
Could it be that a wire is missing from the starter motor? Cus at the moment only the power is running to it, is this normal? The dizzy isnt moving either. :?

Please help!

If you are just getting a clinking noise when you are trying to start then it sounds like the solenoid on the starter motor might be on the blink KennyKix..

Post subject:  Solenoid

Select nuetral, handbrake on, ignition on.

Get a large screwdriver and short out the two terminals above the solenoid....if it cranks over you know it isn't the battery or the starter motor.

This is what i've done.

I used my faithful multimeter to see if any current was getting to the starter when off or when on Acc - nope!

Then followed the cable from starter to solinoid thiny and did the following:
Shorted the two terminals out - the engine moved for a split second and then nothing
the terminals kept sparking however.

ANY ideas would be nice/good/welcome.

OK....you have to short the two terminals in a firm, deliberate fashion :D

The fact that you got sparking is not good...maybe you were a little tentative with the screwdriver :?: You make real good hard contact with one terminal then quickly jam the screwdriver up hard against the other terminal....for about the same time you would if you were turning your ignition key on....

Try it again.... :D

Could it be possible the engine is not earthed to the chasis? Had the same problem and that ended up being the solution.
