I have an 88 Mayfair auto the auto has died so I want to make a few changes my first option was to have the 998 rebuilt a bit worked but linked with a manual, then I thought maybe get a metro motor for it but it's been five months since I talked with the shop and about that long again till he 's getting some motors in from england, I don't have a problem with the one litre but maybe I just don't know any better any ideas would be appreciated and any dollar figures to go with them.
thanks

Shayne

You can still get all the parts to fix those autos, see http://www.jpat.co.uk/

Or, if you want a manual, the block can be converted to suit (note oilways are different on the auto blocks, their oil feed comes up from transmission).
See http://www.austinamericausa.com/ click on `technical advice'. I've detailed the mods needed there, with pics.
